Carl Donald Massullo, Sr., 86, of, Morgantown, passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at his residence with his family by his side.
Born October 11, 1927, in Morgantown, he was a son of the late Domenick and Raphael Vendetta Massullo.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Virginia Wood Massullo; his daughter, Linda Ann Cerone of Morgantown; his grandchildren, Nicholas Cerone, Monica Cerone and Raphaelle Massullo all of Morgantown; his great-granddaughter, Julianna Massullo; one brother, Ralph Massullo and his wife Jackie of Florida; one sister, Patricia Kinder and her husband Eugene of Martinsburg, WV; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Massullo of Morgantown; and a brother-in-law, Peter Rosati of Morgantown.
In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by his first wife, Alice Nimcheck Massullo; a son, Carl Donald Massullo, Jr.; a sister, Mary Louise Rosati; and his son-in-law Tony Cerone.
Carl was a prominent Morgantown business person for many years, having been the retired owner and operator of Massullo’s Cleaners and Tailors on High St.
He was a member of the former St. Theresa Parish, now St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, Acolyte, Hospitality Minister and former Parish Council Member. He was also a board member of St. Francis Catholic School.
Carl was a life member and former director of the Morgantown Bowling Association, and was inducted into the WV Bowling Hall of Fame. He also traveled with the WV Bowling Association team.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served during World War II as a Gunner’s Mate, 3rd Class, and with the US Navy UDT Seals (underwater demolition team). After his service in the Navy, he enliste din the National Guard and the Merchant Marines.
He was a 4th degree member of the Knights Knights Of Columbus, 2954 and 119 Assemblies, Father Boutlou in Morgantown, a life member of the Westover VFW Post 9916, a life member of the Morgantown Moose Lodge 264, and the Sons of Italy, Loggia La Vittoria #914.
Carl will lay in repose at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, One Guthrie Lane, Morgantown on Sunday, July 20th from 4-8 PM and again on Monday, July 21st from 10 AM until the celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial-11 AM with Father John V. DiBacco, V. Rev. Mark G. Ward, CP, VF and Father Colombo Bandiera con-celebrating his Mass. He will be laid to rest at East Oak Grove Cemetery, Morgantown.
A Scriptural Wake Service will be held in the church Sunday evening at 7:30 PM to conclude the visitation.
