Margaret Loretta Jackson Tampoya, 71, of Morgantown, WV passed away Saturday, November 22, 2014 at Ruby Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Loretta was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on October 2, 1943 to Frances Louise Shadrick and Clarence Roosevelt Jackson.
She attended Walkertown School in NC. After moving to Washington D.C. at the age of 16 she began working in the medical field and continued to do so until her retirement in 1998 from WVU/Ruby Memorial Hospitals, except for a 7 year period. During this time she resided in the Philippines with her then husband, Roly Tampoya. She cherished her time in the Philippines where she embraced the culture and witnessed first hand their hospitality.
One of Loretta's greatest passions in life was cooking and anyone who knew her would agree she was a fantastic cook and baker who greatly enjoyed preparing meals for family and friends. Loretta loved to laugh and her relationships with her family and friends meant everything to her.
Loretta is survived by her two sons, August Tino Tampoya of Morgantown and Philip Tampoya of Binan Laguna, Philippines; a daughter, Crystal Shahan of Morgantown; grandchildren, Alexander and Jackson Shahan; three sisters, Jeanette Christie and husband Jay of Lexington, NC, Jackie Hardt and husband Jim of Winston-Salem, NC, and Carole DiBuono of Los Angeles, CA; two half-brothers, Alton Carroll and Frank Carroll, half-sister, Frances Smith, as well as many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. She is also survived by her best friend of over 30 years, Rose Ann Wolfe and her three family pets, a dog, Sugar Pie, and two cats, Rita and Carroll whom she loved very much.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Frances Louise Shadrick and her father, Clarence Roosevelt Jackson; as well as Luther Glenn Carroll.
Many thanks to the doctors, nurses and support staff of Ruby Memorial Hospital especially those on units 7 North East, Dialysis, 10 West, 7 West as well as the Family Medicine, Nephrology, and Hematology departments who showed such loving care and compassion in their care of Loretta.
