Berkeley C. Shilling, 85, of Morgantown went to be with our Lord Tuesday, April 14, 2015.
He was born in Hagerstown, MD on April 16, 1929, the son of the late John Fayman and Edna Campbell Shilling.
Berkeley served in the U.S. Army in Alaska from 1947-1949. He worked in Hagerstown as a bus driver and loan office manager before he was transferred to Morgantown in 1959. Later he was employed by Royal Furniture. Then become owner of Household Furniture, Morgantown Paint and Shilling Furniture.
He was a member of the Sabraton Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, choir member and member of Gideon’s of Morgantown.
He was an avid golfer and pool player and enjoyed a good game of horseshoes.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Kathleen Poffenberger Shilling; children, son, Gordon Shilling and wife Penny; daughter , Barbara Shilling and friend Pat Berzito; son, Curtis Shilling and wife Paula; sister, Dottie Thomas and husband John of Hagerstown, MD; grandchildren, Heath and Tressa Shilling and sons Isaac and Eli Shilling; Holly Stillwagner and husband Brad and daughter Amelia June Stillwagner and Heather Shilling; step granddaughter, Tonya Moore and husband Ed and children Nathaniel, Katie and Tessa and step granddaughter Erica Alexander and husband Geoffrey.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by grandson, Nathan Shilling, daughter-in-law, Clidetta Shilling, brothers, John Jr. and Randy and sisters, Peggy, Betty, Ann, Lucille and Linda.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Mapleshire and Hospice Care.
Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, Morgantown on Sunday, April 19th from 2-4 and 6-8p.m. Visitation will continue on Monday, April 20th at Sabraton Baptist Church, 1641 Sabraton Avenue, Morgantown from 10:00a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00a.m.with Pastor Scott Whetzel officiating. Following the funeral, in keeping with Mr. Shillings wishes cremation service will be provided.
In lieu of flowers donations may be accepted in memory of Berkeley to the Nathan Shilling Memorial Scholarship Fund, 47 Snake Hill Road, Morgantown, WV 26508
