To the Burton Family:
I was saddened to learn of Doug's passing. I went to school with him from 2nd grade on. He always had the greatest sense of humor and made me laugh often in class. I think we might have gotten in trouble a couple of times for laughing in class. He was a great soul who loved life. Even though we haven't physically seen each other in many years, we connected on Facebook and I enjoyed his sense of humor there. Ms. Burton was one of my mom's good friends and I send my deepest sympathy to her especially.

Doug was a good friend from second grade on. Always up for a good time, and a mainstay at our '77 reunions. I would always run into him when I came back to Motown for visits. His smile and wit will be missed, and I will always remember his true friendship. He exemplified courage and determination until the very end. Rest in peace, Doug! And my deepest condolences to his family...

Such a sweet, dear and fun friend. One of a kind. A true chum. A hard worker. Kind and caring. Smart and witty. A classic gent. A loyal classmate in all weathers. We all loved him sincerely. We all experienced many joys with him, without fail. I will miss him very much. Though Silent, He Speaks.

It was with great sorrow that I learned of Doug's passing. Doug was a classmate since 8th grade at Suncrest Junior High. He was always a positive and fun presence. He made our MHS '77 gatherings fun and memorable. I was fortunate and blessed to call him a friend. May fond memories make all our hearts smile when we think of him. My sincere sympathy to his family.

God bless you Doug. Doug and I were friends 30 years ago at Nobil Shoes in Mountaineer Mall. We worked there and became friends. I was from Pittsburgh ,and Doug adopted me like a brother. We just spoke about six weeks ago. I am very sorry....

Dear Beverly, Donnie, Toni, Danny, Dean, Debbie, Darren, Paula, and Norton (plus all the grandkids):
I am so very sorry about Doug. Geez, I've known all the "boys" all my life, and it just breaks my heart to have you lose another one. Doug was a really special guy. If you read his Facebook page you will see just how much he meant to his friends.
Beverly, hang in there. You are such an amazing mom, and an amazing woman as well. I so admire how you have persevered through all that you have gone through over the years. I can't imagine how you are feeling right now, but please know that you are well-loved and respected, and I know you made Doug's last days as comfortable as you possibly could. I love you all! Doug was a unique individual with a fantastic sense of humor. I have known him all his life, and enjoyed every minute of watching the two "Grumpy Old Men" (Doug and my brother Ken) in action. Doug will be greatly missed by all of us!

Doug was a delight to know and with whom to share stories. He mowed my lawn and sometimes shoveled snow for me for about ten years. Most times he would turn off the mower and chat awhile. I always marveled that he he shared with me as easily as he did. I had known him as a student at MHS. I was so happy when he came to my seventieth birthday party. We all were blessed to have him our lives.
