My sincerest condolences to all of Sam's family and friends. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
Sam is fondly remembered. Sam and I dated his senior year in high school and we enjoyed many wonderful times together. He taught me to drive, shared his love of rock 'n roll, showed me how to develop photographs in a darkroom, took me to his senior prom, and that's just for starters! Sam was multitalented. I will always remember the night he proudly and superbly sang a Neil Diamond song, dedicated to his father, in front of hundreds of people at a Point Pleasant High School event the spring of 1973. Sam was engaging, warm, kind, generous, and thoughtful. Most of all, I remember the love. Sam has always held a special place in my heart.

Dear Leigh, Bill, Gordon, Ella, Kimmy and the boys, and Family and Friends of Sammy,
With our sympathy for your loss of dear, kind Sammy. I know one thing for certain – Sammy was elated to be reunited with his sisters, Leigh and Kimmy, and their families. At the end of his life, Leigh and Kimmy's concern, care and laughter brought him much happiness. I will never forget the conference call with Sammy, Leigh, Kimmy and I as I drove all the way from Virginia to New Jersey. What a fun time we four had talking for hours!
Especially today as you mourn Sammy,
Our thoughts are of you.
Our prayers are for you.
Our hearts are with you.
With all our love,
Pam, Elizabeth, Winston, and Snowball

I was about 14 years old when Sammy left for college. I have fond memories of our childhood. Being our older brother, Sammy in many ways paved the way for us. He was always teaching us life lessons and amazing us with his photography skills. Lessons like how to make egg nog, the importance of vitamin C and how much quicker it was to sweep the dirt under the kitchen rug rather than wasting time retrieving the dust pan ... just to mention a few!
The busyness of life pulled us apart over the years and we did not talk as regularly as any of us would have liked; but for the last nine months all that changed and we spoke daily and talked for hours catching up. We had big plans of getting together and being a bigger presence in each other's lives. Speaking with Sammy was so interesting ... he was knowledgable on so many topics! As we reconnected Sammy picked up where we left off teaching me little tid-bits about everything! We spoke of everything imaginable, leaving no crumbs left swept under the rug. He was so interested in his nephews and niece and able to provide perspectives that come from a life time of experiences. Teachings that I will continue to enjoy and share with my children too! Perhaps the greatest of his teachings can be summed up with this quote by Bryant H. McGill ...
“There are amazingly wonderful people in all walks of life; some familiar to us and others not. Stretch yourself and really get to know people. People are in many ways one of our greatest treasures.”

Sammy is my uncle and I am his only neice. I met him once but talked to him many times. I have gotten to realize what an amazing uncle his is. He is caring to animals, an incredible photographer, and a kind person. He always was so helping to me, when I needed help with my homework he told me all the answers! I wish I could have got to spend more time with him, but from the time I spent with him I realized he was an incredible uncle to have. I love you so much Sammy and you are always in my heart.

Although I was only two years older than Sammy, I was his aunt. Sammy was a welcomed addition to our family and we were good friends in our youth. I remember his love of photography back then and I am proud of his tenacity and success in this field throughout his life.
Although we lost touch in adulthood, I am so happy that we reconnected earlier this year and had a chance to catch up. Sammy's passing will leave a void for so many.
May he rest in peace, next to his mom and dad and may his memory be eternal.

Durning the past year, I was able to get to know Sammy through my phone calls with my mom. Sammy was a very caring, loving, and intelligent person. I was really looking forward to getting to met Sammy in person. Even though that didn't happen, I feel like I knew him well and I know Sammy was a great man who loved us and we all loved him very much too.

For the last few months of Sammy’s life my mom spoke with him on the phone almost every day. I never had the privilege of meeting Sammy in person, but through their conversations I got to know him. I would hear him ask my mom about my brothers and I. I know he loved us and wanted to be in our lives. I wish I could tell him that I love him and how happy I am he’s my uncle. I wish I got to spend time with him…he was a great man. Everyone is going to miss you, Sammy. I love you.

Sammy is my uncle. Unfortunately, I was never able to meet my uncle. I spoke with him only once, by phone, a short time before his passing. I was running out the door when I heard the phone ring, and debated if I should check and see who was calling or just leave. I'm so glad that I went back inside and talked with Sammy. It was our first and last conversation, but it was a great one. We talked about our passions and mutual interests. I could tell he was extremely caring, intelligent, insightful, and empathetic. I am proud that he is my uncle and I'm honored that he told me he was proud of me. I wish I was able to spend more time with Sammy, but I will continue to think of him every day. Love you Sammy.
