I was so sad to hear of Winnie's passing and know that there is a new star in heaven!! Growing up on Grand St. Winnie lived a few houses away from us and she always had time to talk and catch up on everything!!
Every time I think of her I smile! She was a very special and beautiful lady.
With Love,
Ann

I was privileged to know Winnie as a neighbor on Jackson Avenue. She and John were terrific. My condolences to family on the loss of the "matriarch."

An aura of positive energy surrounded Aunt Winnie every time I saw her, and it was highly contagious! What a fabulous woman: intelligent, sophisticated, full of knowledge, honest, straightforward and overflowing with love and good humor. I remember her being "down" only once in the 75 years I've known her (I think she held me in her arms soon after I was born at Heiskell Memorial Hospital in 1940), and that was on her 85th Birthday: I called her in the mid-morning to wish her "Happy Birthday!" and detected a sadness in her voice. When I asked her if anything were wrong, she quietly explained her troubles: "Oh, Hiker... those Mountaineers...lost last night." She had gone to the Coliseum the night before, and her alma mater couldn't pull out a victory. What a fan! WVU had no finer! Her spirit will abide in us and will perpetually be a source of remembrances that will make us break into smiles and outright laughter

She was a terrific woman. I always loved it when she was around. I remember her best at the club or at bridge club. She had a great laugh and always saw the humor in life. My mother was very lucky to have had her as a friend.

I received a text message from Hike this morning telling me about Winnie. I am one of the family members originally from Davis. I had a nice visit several years ago with Winnie while she was still at home. She was such a delight as I remember her over the years. When my parents, Jim and Mary Frances Meyer lived in Davis we visited family in Morgantown and spent many times at Whitesides shopping. I am sorry for your loss but I know she led a great long active life for many of those years.
