Obituary of Ova Apanowicz

Ova Apanowicz, 90, who made her home with her daughter Pamela Carlson and son-in-law Richard in Cumming , GA went home to the Lord on Monday Feb. 22, 2016.
She was born on May 15, 1925 in Preston Co., WV to the late John W. and Maggie Jones.
During WW II Ova worked as a riveter for Glenn L. Martin Company in Middle River MD, near Baltimore, building and repairing PBM and B26 bombers. After the war she worked for the Monongahela railroad for 35 years and raised her family in Greene Co. PA. She was a great cook and baker and kept a beautiful home for her family. She enjoyed crochet, embroidery, quilting , reading and playing cards. Her favorite holiday was Christmas and she always gave her children a wonderful Christmas even when times were hard. She was so very sweet and will be greatly missed by her family
Ova is survived by 5 children. Sharron Philpott and husband Frank of Smithfield, PA, Linda Thomas of Fairchance, PA, Pamela Carlson and husband Richard of Cumming, GA, Kenneth Buchanan and wife Marilyn of Oak Hill, WV, Darrell Buchanan and wife Joyce of Dilliner, PA.; grandchildren are Tina Thomas Burns and husband Dan of Bruceton Mills, WV, Louris James Thomas and wife Shannon of Uniontown, PA, Tonya Amiri-Owens of Cumming, GA, Michael Carlson of Cumming, GA and wife Susan of San Francisco, CA, Tabatha Ellison and husband Jeff of Princeton, WV, Kenny Buchanan and wife Stacy of Buffalo, WV, Garry Austin Buchanan of Mapletown, PA, Julie Yerkovich and husband Andy of Dilliner, PA, and Adam Buchanan and wife Maria of Dilliner, PA.
Also surviving are step grandchildren Marsha Higbee and husband Joe of Hammanton, NJ, Patty Baker of Forestdale, RI, Stanley Apanowicz of Fairmont, WV, and Greg Apanowicz of Fairmont, WV. and 16 great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by three husbands, James Junior Grubb, Kenneth Buchanan, and Stanley Apanowicz; a son John Edward Buchanan; a granddaughter Laura Larissa Philpott;a son-in-law Jim Thomas. Also preceded in death by 12 brothers and sisters of whom she was the last.
Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, Morgantown, on Monday, February 29, from 10 am until the time of the funeral service at 11am with Reverend Charles Prevot officiating. Entombment will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens.
