After reading Mike's obituary, I'd have to say that that is exactly the way I remember him...as being selfless and altruistic. I've never me another individual who exemplifies these traits more completely that Mike. These are why I am proud to call him my friend.
May God be with you and may your memories comfort you. I am sure he is indeed with the Lord.

Hi,
I just learned of Mike's passing. I was good friends with Mike in High school. Likely we met in grade school, but my best memories of him were in high school and after college, when I'd come back to Morgantown and happen to see Mike. I am So Sorry to hear about his passing. He was a great guy; probably the most unassuming, friendly and humble guy I knew given his many many talents.
I pray that your memories of Mike will comfort you in your time of grief.

Mrs. Smith, Amy and Family,
Our sincere sympathy and prayers are extended to each of you. Our family ties go back several decades with Brooks serving as my parents' Best Man- as well you know. Even though we didn't see each other with great frequency, whenever we did, it was always special! Mike was a truly sincere and gentle man. I will miss him.
Fondly,
Mike Buchanan (and Family)

I just learned of Mike last night, and he has been on my mind and in my prayers since. I have known Mike since the 7th grade meeting him as the brother of my friend and classmate, Pat.
It is amazing to think of how lucky we all were to grow up with our own family but also with our extended families that included Mike and his family, but also Amy and the Wildmans. I look back on all of them and feel privileged and very blessed to have known them growing up.
To Pat and his brothers and sisters, I have some great memories of being with you and your family and I also think about your father and mother often.
Amy, please know you and your whole family are in my prayers, and with God's mercy we will all be together again with our families and friends.
Take care, and may God bless you all, and especially Mike, today.

On Sunday, the Lord opened up his arms and welcomed my best friend. I am sad. A part of me is gone.
Over the last forty years, I have come to realize, that I am the luckiest person in the world to be able to say that Mike was my best friend.
A friend to laugh (quite a lot), to cry, to teach and be taught, the one person that it didn't matter what they needed knowing that you would do everything in your power to help.
A friend that picked you up, a friend that kicked you in the rear when you needed it. A friend to just put their arm around you and tell you that things were going to be ok.
Mike Smith was a special human being.
He was nice to everyone. He always had a smile for you. A great listener and someone you liked the minute you met him.
I am a better person because of Mike.
I am so thankful. Thankful because of what Mike stood for and for what I have become from my forty years of friendship.
He leaves behind a wonderful family. Amy, Brooks, Scott, and Tim. Special people that have also touched my life and made me better.
His parents Brooks and Pat. Brothers Patrick and Steven and sisters Mimi and Sally.
People that I am truly blessed to have known.
You see, although I am sad. I am blessed. I am one of the many that Mike Smith touched in his short lifetime.
And if you are reading this we will assume that you were too.
On Sunday, the Lord opened his arms and welcomed my best friend.
I am sad.

I am so sorry for the family's loss. Family no matter how often you see them is always family. Although I only had the opportunity to visit with Michael at family reunions, family get togethers and most recently Electa's wedding - he was always so engaging and took the time to have a good conversation with me. My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this time.
Love,
Alicia

My sincere condolences to all of the family.
I have two striking memories of Mr. Smith, one is in person and the other is from the stories my dad told me of him playing high school basketball. I'll start with the latter; my father Lou Pelliccioni coached Mr. Smith and when I would ask him about Mr. Smith the wonderful stories he would tell about his unbelievable athleticism, his effort, but most importantly his kindness and sincere concern for others around him, especially his team. The second, which has much more direct impact on me, was watching him cheer and celebrate his son, Timmy, whom I played golf with during high school. His support for Timmy is something that any son would appreciate and love. It is entirely to soon for someone so good and kind to leave this earth. I am unable to be in attendance for the funeral, and for that I am sorry, but I will be there in thoughts, thinking about the family and for Mr. Smith. I truly wish you the absolute best during this difficult time.
God Bless,
Brice L. Pelliccioni

Dearest Smith families,
I am so very sorry to hear of Mike's passing. He came to my church and was a great athlete in younger years. A new angel in heaven now! God knows what He is doing and not us, so we don't really need to question, but it is natural that we do. At least he left his positive mark on the world, that's one way to look at his passing now.
Please know all of you will be in my thoughts and prayers. Amy, my high school chum, keep in touch. Mike would want all of you to accept his passing and continue on with your lives. It takes time and a lot of prayers to get to that point. Know I will continue prayers for your healing and mourning time. With love, Barbara Palumbo
