Uncle Paul, I enjoyed so much catching up with you last month. I will cherish all of the memories I have of you. I'm so glad you are at peace and hope you enjoy being reunited with grandma, grandpa and Mrs. T. I hate that cancer is what we had in common but am glad that it brought us together. As we spoke of chemo and radiation and the price we pay physically, the frustrations, I saw your eyes, the unspoken things that only someone with cancer or who has had cancer understands. The fears, the anger, I got it....I got you.
From my childhood to my adulthood, you never changed, your spirited opinions made me laugh more than once. We need more people in this world with your no nonsense style. You've been called home and although we would selfishly rather have you here, I'm glad you are no longer in pain.
The apostle Paul said it so well: “We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed….So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal” (2 Corinthians 4:8-9,16-18).

I consider myself lucky to have had such a wonderful and caring uncle. I have many fond memories of his visits when I was a child --and so glad we kept in touch into adulthood. I smile recalling some of the funny things he'd say and his feisty nature. He always had me laughing--he'd send me the most hilarious emails. (Some I'd read at work and be laughing so loud, and co-workers would inquire "whats so funny?".) I will miss you uncle Paul, but I'm comforted knowing you are at peace.
