We are all saddened by Tom's passing. He was the real thing. We are better for having known him. His spirit persists in all of us every time we delight in telling a joke, every time we greet a stranger like an old friend, every time we welcome friends and family into our homes, every time we find joy in nature, every time we offer encouragement to the weary and comfort to the wounded, every time we pause to have a serious conversation with a child or a lighthearted exchange with an elder. Tom will be missed, but he will never be forgotten. We will see him every day in the best parts of ourselves.
We love you and send our deepest sympathy.

Phyllis came home from work yesterday and told me about the death of Tom.. my many many yr.'s accountant, and great friend. I started with Andy Vecchio back in 1965 and then later on it was Mike and then Mike & Tom .. Then Tom & Chuck and Tom was still looking after me and my family including right up till the time of his departure for his almighty and very deserving place in Heaven. If ever the Lord had reserved seating Tom would be sure to be at the top of that list.
When you trust an individual with your books and business you become friends or you part ways. Well I am still here. Tom became more like a buddy and a confident. He saw my struggles in my business as well in my personal life at times. I talked , he listened.. He talked,, I listened. We are just 4 yrs apart in age and both born and raised in Morgantown so we knew so many people in common it was incredible.
We never struggled for conversation. Tom was so good to me and as a single parent Dad raising 2 sons alone he would always ask about my boys when I was in. During my business years with him I saw him almost weekly it seemed and I was always excited to drive into town to meet with him at his office. It was always business 1st followed by a few ( more if he had or gave them) minutes of " How those boy's doin Ed ? " And then I would start.
I had the boys alone from ages 8 & 5 and they are now 29 & 26 So tom had many yrs to ask that question. I will never forget how proud he was to hear that my oldest son Luke had won the selection to the West Pointe Academy and he also won the one for The Air Force Academy also that yr. Well... at the 11th hr. Luke changed his mind completely and took 5 scholarships to WVU in Civil Engineering. Again.. Tom was so pleased because he knew how proud I was of both of my sons. After 3 full yr.'s and great grades Luke comes to me after his Jr. yr completion and ask's me to please go with him the the local Marine Recruiter . He had seen 911 on TV when he was 12 yr.'s old and he said he felt a calling. I tried to convince him to finish his last yr of Civil Engineering and then join the Marines... but no he told me he wanted to be a infantry marine and fight in Afghanistan . *After his books and tuition were all paid he made $14,400 in his pocket.. getting paid to get a Civil Engineering Degree .. and he walked away from it to become a United States Marine.. A true fighting Marine . I did take him to the recruiter as he requested and he did join and he was gone for over 3 yrs. He got extended 2 x's in Sangin Valley Afghanistan and I heard from him only 2 minutes on a satellite call and was cut off in 13 months time.
Tom would constantly remind me how Luke would handle himself and how I raised him and after all he was the best he was a BROTHER MARINE. My son Luke met him only once when he was in high school & not yet a Marine.
I remarried after many yrs . and my wife was the Front End Mgr. at Giant Eagle on Greenbag Rd. where Tom was a regular customer. She was with me when we had to close our business and knew Tom from that before she would then see him in the store. He was always the perfect gentleman and he would ask her about me & the * boy He would sometimes would do random acts of kindness there in many ways. Tom was truly a very loving and caring man.. He so loved his wife and daughters and grandchildren. He spoke of them as much as I spoke of my 2 sons. We never did anything together like hunt or fish or go to WVU games although I still do all of those sometimes but we knew & trusted each other completely and there aren't many men who can say they truly know someone and also trust them completely! I always could do so with Tom R.I.P my dear brother.
