Obituary of Wallace Milton Shatzer

Wallace Milton Shatzer, 91, of Morgantown, passed away on Veteran’s Day 2016 at Home Away From Home Assisted Living Center, Grafton, WV.
Born February 15, 1925 in Rowlesburg, WV, he was the son of his late parents, Emory and Nelle Rhodes Shatzer.
Wallace served in the Navy aboard LST 539, earning two battle stars for service in WWII during the American, European-African-Middle East, and Asiatic-Pacific campaigns, awarded medals for WWII Victory and French Liberation. He worked more than 29 years for the US Postal Service, retiring in 1986.
He was a member of The Post Masters Union, Veterans of Foreign Wars #548 in Morgantown, and St. Theresa’s Roman Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife, Josephine Elaine Shatzer; daughter, Donna Marie (Michael) Murray of Tampa, FL; sons, Brian Lee (Sharon) Shatzer of Morgantown, and Bradley Milton (Debbie) Shatzer of Stow, OH; five grandchildren, Angel (John) Martin, Sheila (David) Graham, Mark (Nicole) Shatzer, Amanda (Stephen) Poorbaugh, and Gary (Amy) Shatzer; and four great-grandchildren, Jacob, Olivia, Andrew, and Mackenzie.
In addition to his parents, Wallace is preceded in death by his brother, Willis Shatzer and sister, Helen Mae Buhl.
Family and friends will be received at St. Frances de Sales Catholic Church from 4-7:30 p.m. on Monday, November 14, 2016, with a scripture wake service with Sister Nancy White, CSJ at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 from 10-11 a.m., the time of the service, with Rev. Msgr. Anthony Cincinnati, STD, VE officiating. Interment will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens.
