Please share a memory of Beatrice to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Beatrice Wannetta Salisbury, 89, of Morgantown, passed away Sunday, March 19, 2017 at her residence.
Beatrice Wannetta Salisbury, better known as Bea or Mom Bea, lived a beautiful and rewarding life in Morgantown, WV. She was born to Luria (Summers) and Denver White on January 24, 1928. Bea and her five sisters, Evelyn (Dodge), Betty (Duesenberry), Nell (Teter) , Alma (Campbell) and Mary (Sommers), lived on Van Voorhis Road. Bea grew up working on the family farm and at Ira Baker’s dairy farm. Bea graduated from Morgantown High School in 1945. Her first job was with Pure Oil Company.
In 1946, Bea married Robert Ellsworth Goff. They had five children: John (deceased) of Piqua , OH, Cherry (Sprague) of Lafayette, CA, Mark (deceased) of Morgantown, Luria Sue (Hamilton) of Parkersburg, WV and Vicki (Phillips) of Savage, MN. She worked for Montgomery Wards during the day and at Mundy’s in First Ward at night. Bea was a devoted single mother who attended school events and little league games. Bea later worked at Sterling Faucet where she used her accounting knowledge and skills. Bea then became manager of the Morgantown AES Federal Credit Union for over 2 decades. She greeted most customers by name and she could even recall their account numbers.
In 1967, Bea married Marvin L. Salisbury of Morgantown to whom she was married for 45 years. Bea and Marvin had two sons, Kevin and Keith (both of Morgantown). In 1997, Bea retired from the Department of Energy Federal Credit Union. Through her days of working with the credit union, Bea was connected to many who lived in Morgantown.
Bea’s legacy is found firmly in her family and friends. Bea’s life demonstrated her sense of duty and caregiving. She was devoted to Marvin’s care for many years after he was seriously injured in a car accident, and she extended her care to her uncles and aunts. Bea was a lifelong member of the Suncrest United Methodist Church (Drummond Chapel). She led a life that walked in the path of Jesus and practiced forgiveness and the Golden Rule. Bea taught her children the values of family, being a reliable worker, playing games, sports and cards.
Bea leaves 15 grandchildren: John and Jason Goff, Jeffrey and Gary Sprague, Kasey and Ryan Goff, Christie Goff, Carrina Goff Noce, Kristen Wisniewski Hrinda, McKenna, Julia and Jessie Hamilton; Jane Whitelock, and Alex and Joshua Salisbury and 14 great-grandchildren Nathan and Allison Goff, Oz and Rock Egan Sprague, Kyle and Kaleb Guthrie and Jaden Beck, Abigail and Logan Hrinda, Carrisa , Anthony, Joshua Noce, Coltin and Chloe Whitelock. Bea also leaves one great great grandson, Landen Guthrie.
Bea was fortunate to have two wonderful caregivers and friends, Ruth Ann Epps and Tammy Evans, and her faithful, ever-present son Kevin, who was her ‘ray of sunshine’.
In addition to her parents, Bea was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin, two sons, John and Mark, and three of her sisters: Betty, Alma, and Evelyn.
