Obituary of Mary Gansor
Mary Gansor, 90, formerly of Westover and The Suites at Heritage Point, passed away June 9, 2017, at Madison Nursing & Rehab Center.
Mary was born in Sabraton, WV on May 1, 1927, a daughter of James Medvick and Sophia Cherepany of Munkachevo, Ukrane.
She was a graduate of Morgantown High School in 1944 and attended classes at West Virginia University. Her careers included 10 years at University Motors as secretary and book keeper, 10 years at Chico Dairy as the accounts payable book keeper, and 18 years at WVU Arts & Sciences Deans Office in accounting. Mary was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Orthodox Church where she was past Vice President of The Ladies Guild.
Mary loved singing in the church choir. She enjoyed the Senior Center Bopark Choir, line dancing, gardening, and was an avid bowler. She also enjoyed playing cards including Canasta, Pinnacle, Hand and Foot, Golf, and Hearts with her grandchildren.
Mary is survived by her sons: Michael Gansor and wife Julie Gansor, Joseph Gansor, Jr. and wife Nancy, Edwin Gansor and wife Susan, and Kenneth Gansor; grandchildren: Phillip Gansor, Steve Gansor, Jennifer Mone, Susan Gansor, and Joseph Gansor III; great granddaughter, Sophia Mone; one brother, Charles and wife Arlene Medvick; and sister-in-law, Margaret Medvick.
In addition to her parents, Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Gansor, Sr., who passed away January 4, 1996; and brothers, George and wife Jean, and James Medvick.
Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, Morgantown on Sunday, June 11 from 1-6pm with a Panahida service starting at 5:30PM. Monday, Mary will be moved to St. Mary’s Orthodox Church where visitation will continue at 10AM until 11AM. Funeral service will be held at 11 AM with Father Matthew Stagon officiating. Interment will follow at East Oak Grove Cemetery.
