Obituary of Hazel Marie Kesler
Hazel "Marie" Kesler, 89, of Morgantown, passed away June 26, 2017 at Mon Health Medical Center.
Marie was born June 14, 1928, in Morgantown, a daughter of the late George H. and Hazel Barthlow Sallows, both of Morgantown.
Marie attended Morgantown High School and graduated with the class of 1946 then later attended West Virginia University. She graduated from ADD Art Institute, Pittsburgh, PA. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority and later in life was an American Red Cross Disaster volunteer for 17 years.
Marie was a lifetime member of the Episcopal Church Dioceses of West Virginia, a former member of Trinity Episcopal Church and a founding member of St. Thomas a Becket Church, both in Morgantown. She was a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader when her children were young and served as a host for the WVU Student Foreign Exchange Program.
Marie is survived by her husband of 66 years, Ray M. Kesler, who she married on September 8, 1950; daughters: Georgette M. Ward and husband Phillip P. of Buckhannon, WV, and Jennifer L. Cain, of Morgantown; sons: Robert R. Kesler of Morgantown, and Shawn M. Kesler and wife MariBeth of Wheeling, WV; grandchildren: Amy Jones Gainey Taylor, and husband Jeff of Reedsville, WV, and Zachary N. Cain of Morgantown; great grandsons: Cory and Jack Gainey, Jeffery Taylor, Brian and Tony Shane; and beloved cat, Kitty.
In addition to her parents Hazel was preceded in death by her brother, George H. Sallows, Jr. of Souix City, Iowa and a grandson, Lee A. Kesler of Wheeling.
Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown on Wednesday, June 28th from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Visitation will continue at the St. Thomas a Becket Episcopal Church, 75 Old Cheat Rd., Morgantown, on Thursday, June 29th from 10 AM until the time of the funeral service at 11 AM with Bishop Alex Black officiating. In keeping with her wishes, cremation will take place following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Thomas a Becket Episcopal Church, 75 Old Cheat Rd., Morgantown, WV 26508.
