Obituary of Victoria Margaret Rockis
Victoria M Rockis passed on June 23, 2017 at the age of 88. She was preceded in death by her husband Edward W Rockis of Morgantown, WV. She was the daughter of the late Leon and Frances Holipski of Reedsville, WV.
Victoria was a long time resident of the Morgantown community, and with her husband, owned and operated City Pharmacy on High Street. After Edward’s death, Victoria took over the operations of City Pharmacy and ran the business as her own. Victoria loved being a member of the Morgantown business community.
Victoria was an unstoppable force. She was passionate about her family and was always ready to lend a hand in a time of need. Her strength infused anyone who knew her.
Victoria always showed her true self at Christmas. When her son Jim founded Quarter Pine Farms, Victoria found a love of the Christmas tree business that rivaled his own. Whether she was making and selling wreathes that showed off her artistic flair, or making nut rolls for holiday guests, or staying up late to make the secret family turkey stuffing, Victoria was happiest during the Christmas season.
Victoria grew up on a farm and she never forgot those skills. Her vegetable garden would brim with fresh produce that she teased from the soil. Even when she could no longer physically garden herself, you could find her outside giving advice to her son’s workers on how to support the tomatoes or tie up the bean trellis.
Victoria was a member of Saint Mary’s Catholic Church and drew strength from Catholicism. Yet, Victoria was always willing to listen to and explore other viewpoints while living her own faith.
She is survived by her children and grandchildren; son Jim Rockis (Laura) of Morgantown, daughter Amy Rockis of Smithfield, PA, daughter Becky Rockis of Kill Devil Hills, NC and son Ben Rockis of Durango, CO, grandson Brock Fillinger of Waltham, MA, grandson Eli Kerr of Meyersdale, PA and grandson Will of Pullman, WA.
Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown on Thursday, June 29th from 5-8 and again on Friday, June 30th from 10 AM until the time of the funeral service at 11 AM with Father John V. DiBacco officiating. Interment will follow at East Oak Grove Cemetery.
