Obituary of Duane Allen Lewis
Duane Allen Lewis, 66, of Morgantown, passed away Saturday, July 1st while a patient at the Select Specialty Hospital in Latrobe, PA. He was born May 1, 1951 in Elkins, WV, a son of the late Rose Marie Lewis.
Duane attended Morgantown Jr. High and was a 1970 graduate of Morgantown High School where he was a member of the men's varsity basketball team. He was employed as a coal miner for 43 years, retiring on June 1, 2013 from Alpha Natural Resources- Cumberland Mine in Kirby, PA. He enjoyed traveling, chess, photography, sports, and computers. He found his most joy when surrounded by family and friends. He will be so tenderly remembered a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather and as a valued friend to many.
Left to cherish precious memories are his wife of 41 years, Renee Lewis; his sons, Duane Allen Lewis II, Richard Elliott (wife Nikki) Lewis, and Jeffrey "J.T." Turner Lewis; and his daughter, Tracy Michelle Jones; grandchildren, Richard Elliott Lewis II, Aliyah Maya Lewis, Chandler Michael Jones, Brendan Zachary Jones, and Jasmine Rose Jones; siblings, Richard (Ben) Lewis, Clarence (Skip) Lewis, Jacqueline Lewis Terry, Charles Lewis, Michael Lewis, and Jennifer Lewis Jackson and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his brother, Gerald Lewis.
Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown, on Friday, July 7th from 5-8 PM and again on Saturday, July 8th from 10 AM until the time of the funeral service at 11 AM with his brother, Pastor Michael Lewis officiating. Interment will follow at East Oak Grove Cemetery in Morgantown.
