Obituary of Terrance Lee Areford
Terry Areford, 70, “The Stem Cell Man” of Morgantown passed away Friday, July 14, 2017 at Ruby Memorial Hospital unexpectedly after a short illness; he was surrounded by all of his family.
He was born August 24, 1946 in Morgantown, son of the late Harry Leroy and Lolita Eileen Fickey Areford.
Terry was very passionate about golf, getting together with his buddies on Wednesday afternoons at Wendy’s, and spending time with his grandchildren who were the light of his life. He was also very determined in getting the word out on stem cell research, which saved his life in 2007.
His words and memory will never be lost, for he passed on his legacy to his children and grandchildren through words of guidance. Everyone knew that when they were in their worst place, they could turn to Terry for loving advice and support.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Bonnie; his sisters, Joanne and Tom McBee, and Nancy and Daryl Wolford; his children, Terri Lynn and Mike Shaw, Chad and Julie Areford, and Chrissy Areford; his grandchildren, Cody, Adam, Jordan, Breanna, Kyle, Dylan, and Chase; many nieces and nephews, and very special cousins.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Doug.
Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, Morgantown, on Monday, July 17 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Visitation will continue on Tuesday, July 18 from 10-11 AM, the time of the service with Rev. Kevin Cain officiating.
In accordance with Terry’s wishes, cremation will follow. Interment will be at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens at a later date.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Westover VFW Post 9916, 340 Holland Avenue, Morgantown, WV 26501.
