José Fernando la sorpresa de tu temprana partida no deja de conmoverme.
Nunca te volví a ver,nunca entendí porque te fuiste sin despedirte.
Siempre te extrañe y nunca mas supe de tí
Aún conservo el cuaderno donde me escribías canciones que me gustaban en Inglés como “La llama eterna” “Eterna Flame” A shoulder to cry on” “un hombro sobre el cual llorar”
Cuando supe que habías dejado Colombia ya habian pasado más de 15 años y cuando me fui a Nueva York nunca te pude contactar.
Fuiste mi mejor amigo de la infancia y la adolescencia,estudiamos 4 años de primaria juntos y fueron suficientes para grabarte en lo más profundo del alma.
Nunca más te volví a ver han sido casi 30 años quizás un poco mas pero aún así me duele mucho tu partida.
Gracias por tu corta amistad y tu eterno ejemplo de fortaleza.
Dios te tenga en su reino,estoy seguro que te lo ganaste con tu nobleza y buen corazón
Te recordaré por siempre mi gran amigo de la infancia y adolescencia.

Ayer se marchó Fernando, al que también llamábamos por su apellido. Amigo y compañero de años más jóvenes, de fiestas, de estudios. Se fue sin previo aviso y nos deja huérfanos de su sonrisa, de su voz, del brillo de sus ojos. A más de uno le ha dejado el alma en pedazos, por aquellos amores intensos, difíciles. A otros la deuda de una conversación larga y sincera. A sus alumnos la riqueza de su enseñanza. Y a todos su brillante buen humor, la sinceridad de sus críticas y la serenidad de su carácter.
Dicen que los preferidos de los dioses se marchan antes. Oquendo se fue sin dolor, sin deteriorarse, seguramente feliz de estar con su pareja en un viaje terrenal que nadie percibía sin regreso. Duele su partida, sobre todo por lo inesperada. Pero sabemos que su presencia sigue aquí, en Sabaneta, en Morgantown, en Holanda... en cualquier sitio donde un ser humano pudo tratarlo y conocer sus sentimientos y su pensamiento, su espíritu reinvindicativo, su don de la palabra, su consejo, su mirada limpia, su generosidad y su inmenso corazón.

Dear Corey
José studied highschool and university with me. More than friends we were brothers. I try to think it is not true, I wish to believe he's happy by your side on and on and on. That's the way it must be. I will keep his laugh and his smile for ever. He was so cheerful and so good company for everyone. He got along well with children, teenagers and adults, he never made a difference. We spent long nights at home talking and talking. He always had something to say upon just anything. He taught me a lot about life and good living. The last time he came to Colombia he apologized because we didn't see each other, he said he just wanted to be with his parents as long as he could in his visit. He never changed, he was always extroverted and clear and sunny as the weather. It is difficult for me to express my feelings but this time it is quite worth it. José was just a year older than me but he always looked younger. He loved life as he loved you. He sent me a photo of you two when you celebrated your wedding. Now, I am your brother-in-law. Do not mourn long, José wanted you to be happy and smile. He is with you today and tomorrow and today and tomorrow again and again. God bless you Corey. A long big warm hug.... your brother, manu

My sincerest and heartfelt sympathy is extended to the family of Jose.
He will never be forgotten. His kindness and happy spirit of love was shown toward many within the WVU Community as well as the Morgantown Community. He was such a willing person to volunteer for many helpful organizations including The Rack, WVU's Food Bank for Students.
Jose, will never be forgotten. I remember his smiling face and open face of love when he arrived to WVU when visting the former office where I was employed, Thereafter our first time meeting, we'd always greet one another with a big hug.
To Jose's family, you had a spouse, son, brother, nephew, cousin or a friend, who was like no other. He had a true gift of love and compassion toward everyone he met.
May God Bless and Comfort you all during this difficult time.
