Obituary of Robert Benjamin Robinson
Robert Benjamin Robinson, of Cheat Neck, died August 30, 2017 at Mon Health Medical Center after a short illness. Robert was born July 9, 1927 in Smithfield , PA. He was the son of the late Benjamin and Mary Catherine Robinson. He attended Georges Township High School and enlisted in the Navy where he served for 4 years aboard the USS Saipan aircraft carrier. He was very proud of his service to his country. During his assignment, the Saipan completed a World Cruise crossing the equator, earning Bob the distinction of being a "Shellback". After receiving an honorable discharge from the Navy he spent the next 40 years working for the B&O Railroad then CSX before retirement. He was a member of the American Legion and former member of Cheat Lake Lions.
He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed traveling (especially the Southwest), attending antique auctions, refinishing old furniture, reading, and watching westerns. He especially enjoyed time with his family, attending his Navy reunions, all of his dogs, and following the Mountaineers. Above all Bob was gentleman.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Louise Jennewine Robinson, his daughter Marcy Myers and husband Jay of Charleston. He was a loving husband and father. Also surviving are his sister Eleanor Jenkins of Uniontown and brother Edgar Robinson of Cheat Neck, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters Betty Jenkins and Nora Cooley.
Friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home 153 Spruce St., Morgantown on Friday, September 1, 2017 from 9:30am until time of funeral service at 11:00am. A private family burial will be held at Donaldson Cemetery.
