Dear Cindy, Robert, Phil, and Family,
I was quite saddened to learn of Steve's passing upon returning from a trip. He was TOPS!! I remember many things we did together from softball, good conversations, to sharing driving duties returning from a successful Michigan salmon trip. His vast knowledge of property and related law was almost 'scary'. He was definitely 'the go to guy' for many lawyers that 'got stuck' on a particular issue. And, in the footsteps of his gracious father, he would virtually always drop what he was doing and help right away. Additionally, our respective personalities were a good match. He will be missed by many for a long time.In sincere sympathy and prayers, I am

Through a mutual friend, I first met Steve a couple of years ago with an oil/gas lease question ... we both had ancestors in the Miracle Run area; we seemed to immediately hit it off ... he was easy to talk with ... recently, he helped me with understanding gas royalty contracts ... initially, the deal fell through and although I wanted to pay him; he wanted nothing for his time ... but, within a few weeks I was approached again and this time Steve negotiated a deal that was very profitable for the two of us ... as a genealogy buff, I sketched out his family tree ... I found Steve to be a down-to-earth, easy spoken, family man; he will be missed ... Thanks again Steve for imparting to me some of your wisdom!

It saddens me greatly to not have not been able to pay my respect in person for Steve's service. I will always have great respect for the man. I have considered him a mentor as well as a friend and I have learned a lot by just watching his actions and how he handled himself. From reviewing past deals to possible future deals he always had great insight and could make you look at options in many different ways. I know that he loved what he did, making deals happen and taking care of his family and friends. I enjoyed the time that I spent with Steve from an office setting to holding a fishing pole sitting on a boat. He will truly be missed.

Steve Shuman was most certainly acquainted with and practiced the preponderance of the Beatitudes of Jesus, particularly those related to righteousness, mercy, and pureness of heart. Due to an odd set of recurring circumstances, his friendship hopped into my life every few years since he was a truly young attorney. Thinking back, this was due to unexpected blessings coming our way, coupled with blessings and wisdom bestowed by Mr. Shuman himself. He was truly sagacious, honorable, loyal, honest, and effective. He always had time for an impromptu consultation, coupled with lighthearted, insightful, generous advice and an apropos dose of humor. It has been a privilege and a joy to have known him. I suspect he will be in my thoughts and prayers always, as he certainly is now. Bill Sutherland, Sewickley, PA

To the Shuman Family:
I am very saddened to hear of Steve's passing. Since meeting him in 1988, he has been a mentor, dear friend, and confidant to me. I will always remember the "deals" we did together, along with the Sunday morning conversations. On a personal level, I often think of his advice, wisdom, and words of encouragement. Like many, I am a better person because of him.
May God bless you during this difficult time.

Cindy, Robert and the Entire Family: Words cannot describe my sadness for your loss. As you may know, Steve was my mentor and one of the main reasons I chose real estate law as a profession. I have such fond memories of working with Steve and Mr. Shuman. I know I speak for the entire Lewis family when I say we considered Steve part of our family as well. He will be missed.
Please accept my deepest sympathies during this difficult time.
Sincerely,
Matt Lewis

I will miss him deeply. I am proud and blessed to say he was a great friend and supporter not only to me... additionally of those less fortunate and without wanting to be known, recognized or anything in return. I was honored he trusted me to be a part of his blessings into the communities of those who knew nothing of where it came from. Cannot find the words to express what a genuine friend he was and now will be missed dearly
Love you Steve
May you Rest In Peace my dear friend... till we meet again. May your blessings to others lead you straight to the gates of Heaven

I had the opportunity to work with Steve on the Mon County Planning Commission. His knowledge of the county and the citizens concerns was greatly appreciated by all who attended these meetings. As a local REALTOR, Steve was simply a great person to work with. He always put the concerns of buyers, sellers, and all those involved in a real estate transaction first. All questions were always answered and if he could not provide the answer he would contact someone who could. His legal knowledge will be missed not only his business associates but by all those who benefited from his counsel. My sincere condolences to his wife and family.

Steve Shuman was the greatest friend I ever had, but I am certain that hundreds of others will make the same claim. Steve's capacity for generosity and giving knew no bounds. Whether legal services, consulting, money, charity, civic cause, or just a patient ear, Steve gave all he had every day without reservation. I practiced law with Steve for at least 35 years - - occasionally as his lawyer, more often as co-counsel sharing a client or case, and most often just swapping advice and counsel (especially on Sunday mornings). Steve had a deep intellectual curiosity about the details of law and human nature, and he was possessed of an unswerving sense of not merely professional ethics, but right and wrong (although he was not unacquainted with the Old Testament concept of revenge and the need to smite your enemies when the circumstances arose). There are no words to express my sense of loss, but most importantly, I offer my best wishes and prayers for the entire Shuman family.
