Obituary of Sylvia Opal Myers
Sylvia Opal Myers, 94, of Morgantown, beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, died at Sundale Nursing Home, on Sunday, December 3, 2017 of natural causes.
She was born October 9, 1923, the second of seven children born to William Chester Reed and Goldie Wanda (Maust) Reed.
A lifelong resident of Morgantown, she retired in 1986 from West Virginia University where she worked in food service for 27 years. After her retirement she enjoyed following the WVU Mountaineer football and basketball teams and the Pittsburgh Pirates on both radio and television. She was a devoted fan of several game shows and it was rare for her to miss watching “The Price is Right”, “Let’s Make A Deal”, “Jeopardy”, and “Wheel of Fortune”.
Sylvia is survived by her children, Robert N. and wife Marlyn J. Myers, Darlene F. and husband Michael P. Dawson, Roger K. Myers and his spouse Douglas D. Barr, along with 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her siblings, William Chester Reed, Jr., Ernest Paul Reed, Goldie Irene (Reed) Vorbach, Mary Frances (Reed) Ackerson, Ruby Marie Reed, and Betty Louise Reed. She was also preceded in death by her ex-husband, Robert E. Myers, to whom she was married for 31 years.
Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, Morgantown, on Friday (12-8-17) from 11 AM until the time of the funeral service at 1 PM with Chaplain Craig Falkenstine officiating. A private family committal service will take place at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens.
Sylvia’s children extend their thanks and gratitude to the staff of Sundale Nursing Home and Morgantown Hospice for the gentle care and comfort they provided Sylvia in her final days.
