I have had many students at Tulane and Donald was right at the top. We have kept in contact over the years. It is sad that there are so few who have left such a legacy as Donald did and it is such a happy thing that he has had such a positive effect on so many lives including mine. I and the world will miss him so, but I shall retain his memory and so many people have and will be better for his time in our lives.

Not only an amazing grandfather Donald was an amazing person. My whole life I have known him as a kind and loving person. I remember even on Christmas day we went out to deliver the meals on wheels to people in need. It was in ways like this he would show his love for us and i believe he would want us to know that even though we may not see it he still loves and looks out for us just as he did in the past.

I am deeply saddened to hear of Donald's passing. As a long-time colleague and friend, I learned much from Donald. I always valued his unwavering commitment to principles and his dedication to his craft. He challenged students unlike no other, getting them to realize capabilities they never saw in themselves. His standards were high, but he never expected more from his students and colleagues than he expected from himself.
I treasured his subtle, but persistent, sense of humor. He was grounded in his beliefs and used humor to convey them and challenge others. Humor was always the quickest way to get close to Donald and I recall many laughs over the years.
Donald has left a legacy of inspired students, grateful colleagues, trusted friends and loving family. I will miss him and send my deepest condolences to all of the Gray family.
