Obituary of Doris Jane Scott

Doris Jane Dean Scott, 74, entered into eternal peace, on Sunday, January 14, 2018, at her residence, surrounded by her loving family, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s.

Doris was born in Morgantown, WV on January 31, 1943, a daughter of the late Walter and Dora Iser.  She was a graduate of Morgantown High School.  On August 31, 1963 she married the love of her life, Charles Scott, and together they shared 54 wonderful years as best friends and companions. 

Doris was employed at the Davis and Lynch Glass Factory, as well as PharMor, until their closing.  In addition, Doris was the accountant for Scott Trucking, a family business.  However, Doris’ most favorite job was being a caretaker for many young children, especially her grandchildren.

Doris’ greatest love was spending time, with her grandchildren and loved ones.  She derived much pleasure from her visits to the beach and shared her love of lighthouses with her daughter. 

Doris was an active member of Hope Church, until her illness prevented her from attending any longer. 

She leaves her loving memories to be cherished by her beloved husband, Charles Scott; daughter, Joyce Core and husband Scott; son, Robert Scott and wife Judy; grandchildren, Cody and Morgan Scott and Scottie Core; sister, Betty Dean; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Doris is predeceased by brothers; Robert and John Dean and sisters; Donna Russell and Mary D’Amico.

There are special angels here on earth who go above and beyond their duties to become more like family instead of caretakers:   Marlyn Cutright, you were that angel and we thank you for the outstanding care provided to our wife, mother and grandmother.  

Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.  Visitation will continue at the funeral home on Thursday, January 18, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. with Sr. Pastor Allen Donham officiating.  Interment will follow at Nicholson Cemetery.
