Sue, Mike and I will remember with great happiness the times we got to spend with you all. John was a big handsome, warm and welcoming man and you always the gracious beautiful Sue by his side. I pray you will find some comfort in knowing just how many people John touched during his time here. I am so glad Mike and I got to be part of that.
God bless you Sue. Keep your faith. We will all have the answers one day..
Love from Mike and Pat Johns

We first met John when he came to work in Duluth MN in 1970. As a member of the Duluth Rowing Club we were wondering who this lumberjack looking guy was riding along in the coach boat with our coach Pete. Long story short John had been an experienced rower in his earlier school years, came down to check us out and eventually took over the coaching position for Pete who was in his late years. John was a big influence on our club. He knew how to push us to the limit with the tank empty as we crossed the finish line. He took our club to a new level in our association and soon we were one of the dominant clubs to beat. I learned a lot from John and it carried on into my later life in the sport. The club was so happy to see Sue and John travel to Duluth and take part in our new Duluth Rowing Club Boathouse dedication in the fall of 2016. And on a personal note, how nice it was having them spend some time with Lynette and I at her cabin up the North Shore of Lake Superior, as they headed back by way of going around the Canadian shore of the Lake. We will never forget John and the impact he had on us all. To Sue and family, our condolences. Thoughts and prayers to you.

Sue, so sorry to hear of John's passing. I was just thinking about the two of you a few weeks ago as I was traveling with my daughter through Morgantown. I have some very good memories of John and you and your place on the Cheat.
My greatest adventure with John was when we traveled to Wausau WI for a conference and then up to Rhinelander and Duluth MN so he could visit an old friend. We drove straight through on the way back and were so very tired. I remember falling into one of your beds exhausted and you fixing us a wonderful breakfast the next morning.
In true John fashion, I remember him declaring on many occasions, "When I come back next time, I want to be born rich instead of so damn good looking." Okay John, please remember your old friends when you do. Peace my friend!
