Obituary of Nora Althea Powell
Nora Althea (Piper) White Powell, 89, of Morgantown, passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at Mapleshire Nursing Home & Rehabilitation Center of Morgantown, WV.
Nora was born in Morgantown on June 12, 1928, the daughter of the late Marshall Forman Piper and the late Martha Gladys (Taylor) Piper.
Nora was a graduate of Morgantown High School and attended Marshall University. She went on to work at the Monongalia County Board of education for 21 years. Nora loved to give her time to help others. She was a teacher’s aide, cook at Jerome Park, and a long time volunteer at Woodburn Elementary School.
She also enjoyed attending auctions, drawing, and collecting Barbie Dolls. She was a great baker and homemaker. Nora was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, and friend; and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include her son, Paul T. White Jr. and spouse Melanie of Independence; 3 grandchildren: Joanna Michelle White, Jessica Kathleen White, and Paul T White III; 1 brother, Paul E. Piper of FL; and two close friends, Mary Alice McIntire and Anne Lazelle.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her first and second husbands, and a brother, Arthur T. Piper.
Friends and family will be received Tuesday, Feb 13th, at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown, from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. with Pastor Brian Long officiating. Interment will follow in Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens, Morgantown.
