Pat was amazing woman! She knew me before I knew her. She knew my sisters, Judy and Jeanne Matney in Welch. I was the bratty little sister who always tagged along! When I got to WVU and was working on my bachelors in elementary education, Pat found my name on the student teaching list and immediately took me under her wing. She told that me "us Welch girls have to stick together." She picked out special places for me to student teach, she came to see me and mentor me often, and she would often just call me tell me that I was doing okay when I felt like I wasn't succeeding. When I was second guessing myself, she would make me stop and ask myself, "Will this make a positive impact on a child? If it will, then go for it!" I will never forgot all the advice and support that she gave me. I just finished my 31st year of teaching and I would have never made it this far without the love and support of Pat.
