Obituary of Wilbur Hemmann

Wilbur Gordon Hemmann, 91, of Morgantown, WV, entered into eternal peace on September 6th, 2018 in his home surrounded by family.

Wilbur was born in Wheeling, WV to Edward and Gertrude Bock Hemmann on May 4th, 1927.  He went to school at University High School and graduated in 1945.  He enlisted in the Navy April 20th 1945, and served aboard the newly commissioned USS Rendova in the American Theater in WWII. He received the American Theater Ribbon and Victory Medal, then honorably discharged with the rank of Seaman 1st class.

Upon discharge, he returned to Morgantown where he worked with his father at the Hemmann Market on Point Marion Road. He took up flying lessons and received his license.  After other endeavors, Wilbur incorporated Commercial Builders in 1970 and operated it until his retirement in 1988.

He married Judy Semesky Redwine on February 1st, 1978 in Westover, WV, and recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary.  Wilbur liked to remain active, enjoyed gardening, was always up for a game of cards, and always had a Sudoku book, or crossword puzzle near at hand. Wilbur was an active member of Spruce St. United Methodist Church for over 35 years. He was always ready and willing to help when anyone needed help with any issue.

Wilbur is survived by his wife of 40 years, Judy Hemmann, his daughter and husband, Linda & John Hayes of Bruceton Mills, and their 4 children, Tracy, John, Kimberly, and Cody; his daughter and husband, Cheryl & Ron Snyder of Morgantown, and their 2 children, Doug and Kelly, and his son and wife, Brad & Melissa Hemmann of Gladesville and their daughter, Isabelle. Wilbur also is survived by his sister, Joanne (Joni) Luitjens and 11 great-grandchildren.

Wilbur was preceded in death by his mother and father, Gertrude & Edward Hemmann, his brother and sister-in-law, Donald & Gwen Hemmann, son & daughter-in-law, Keith & Melanie Hemmann, grandson, Chad Hemmann and recently his sister, Betty Debolt.

A special Thank You to the hospice care nurses from Amedisys who were so helpful in the days immediate to Wilbur’s passing.
