I shall always remember Joel as a wonderful student in my 5th grade at Park View
School. He was a fine boy and a delight to teach and to know. My husband
passed away recently - and I have been dealing with that - and now to read

This is such sad and unexpected news. Joel was a great friend and I will always cherish the times we spent together in Wheeling and our occasional reunions as adults. No matter how long it had been since we had seen each other in a moment we were reminiscing and laughing. I can see why the Lord took him back early, he was a joy to be around.

I knew Joel as a colleague and friend in the Department of Community Medicine and then the School of Public here at WVU. We are so sorry to hear this news. Although I haven't seen Joel recently, I have many wonderful memories of him and all of the Halversons from our annual trips to Hilton Head. From playing cards to fishing to playing tennis, my step-brothers always included me in their games and antics! Joel always had an easygoing way about him, and I loved being around him. Our love and prayers go out to the rest of our family and his friends.
