As a master's student in 1970-1971, I admired Dr. Stewart for his dedication to journalism and students. As dean, he led the School of Journalism with the upmost professionalism and highest ethical standards. After he left, the School began to lower its standards to attract more students in a trend of quantity over quality -- common among many schools. Many years later, in the spirt of Dr. Stewart, I tried to fight that decline as a part-time faculty member in the School, but was not successful. Dr. Stewart was one of the last great deans of the journalism schools. Not long before his death, I wrote to tell him that my career has been richly blessed by his presence.

Jeff and family - I'm very sorry for your loss. I have warm memories of your dad, and he always made me feel welcome in your house. He was also quite tolerant of our antics, lol! May the sadness in your hearts fade over time with the healing knowledge that he is now at peace in a much better place.

Dear Pat and Family,
We send our deepest sympathy to you for the loss of your beloved Guy. He led a very full and exemplary life, and he touched the lives of many people.
We are still living in the home that we bought through Pat Stewart Realty in 1977,
and we appreciate all the assistance that you gave us at that time.
May God comfort you and give you peace.

I was a Journalism Major 1968-72. I found Dr. Stewart approachable. He made an effort to get to know the journalism majors. A few years after graduation I asked for his help in obtaining a job. He gave me a glowing recommendation that helped me land it. I will always be grateful to him for that, and for the encouragement I felt he gave me in my career. My condolences to the family.

Dear Pat. Kaz and I send our love to you and to the whole Stewart family. Guy was such an interesting person and he had much kindness in his heart. He did so many wonderful things for so many people through Rotary, his church, and WVU. We always enjoyed being with him at Heidi’s house. He will be greatly missed.
