Please share a memory of Eberhard (Eb) to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Eberhard (Eb) Wolfgang Werner, 77, of Morgantown, passed away peacefully Thursday, September 19, 2019, at Sundale Nursing Home. He was born April 29, 1942, in Koenigsberg, East Prussia, a son of the late Albert and Elise (Link) Werner
Eb, with his mother and grandparents, fled Koenigsberg when it was taken by the Russians in 1944. They fled to Germany and were reunited with his father by the Red Cross three years after the war. They came to the United States as refugees and lived in Pennsburg, PA.

Eb was a graduate of Perkiomen Academy, received a B.S. in Geology from the University of Pennsylvania and a Masters from Rutgers. He did graduate work at WVU in geology.

Eb worked as an oceanographer at Scripps Institute in San Diego and for the National Oceanographic Office in Washington DC. He taught geology at Waynesburg College and ran their summer field camp in Colorado for two years. He worked in the WVU Geology Department for many years. Along with two other geologists, formed a consulting company, Geo Analysis, that provided geological consulting services, particularly doing lineament maps.

Eb began caving in college and combined his interest in geology with exploring caves. He was a member of the National Speleological Society and was a Fellow of this Society. As a part of the West Virginia Speleological Society, he published a book that was a bibliography of karst literature.
Eb loved old-time music and enjoyed attending music festivals and concerts. He served on the PattyFest Board of Directors and also as a Director of the annual Gardner Winter Music Festival. He received the Gardner Heritage Award this past year.

Eb always had his camera with him, taking pictures of both nature and musicians. Eb was a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church and had served on the Board of Deacons.

Eb is survived by his wife of 51 years, Judy Werner, his sons Michael and Brian Werner and wife Lindsey, and grandchildren Alana and Dainan Werner, and Alexander Siracusa.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation services will be provided. Friends and family will be received at First Presbyterian Church, 456 Spruce Street, Morgantown, on Saturday, October 19 from 10 AM until the time of the Memorial Service at 12 officiated by Rev. Zac Morton.

The family would like to thank the nurses who took care of him at Sundale Nursing Home and Amedisys Hospice Care, as well as the many friends who had provided support during these past months.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to First Presbyterian Church or to Gardner Winter Music Festival or charities of your choice.
