Sorry to hear about Bud's passing. I just heard today. Loved when he would come in the office and tell me the many stories. Even though I heard it many times before he always had a twinkle in his eye when he told it. He and Doris and my in-laws Ding and Hazel Tennant ran around together and did so much together. They both had Larry as their first son. I still have the card that Bud and Doris gave them when their Larry was born. I have known Bud for many years. Heaven definitely got an angel with him. But I know he is so happy to be with the love of his life, Doris.

Larry,
I am sorry to hear of your father's passing. Your family are in my thoughts and prayers. Was told of many good memories by my grandmother of your mother and father and their years in Barrackville.

I used to wait on Mr. Ice when he came into Rite Aid. He was the kindest, caring man and it was my pleasure to know him. My deepest condolences to his family.

I knew Bud pretty well back in the day. I was a a Fairmont State College student and in the summer worked as temporary help with the maintenance workers down Ft Martin Power Plant. (I think Bob Lyons got me on for two or three summers in the late 1960’s). So it was there I ran into and got to know Bud. Even though the was in the operations devision and I was in maintenance—I really liked Bud. Bud like being close to the action and interacted with my “gang” on a daily basis. Bud was very likable but what I think I liked best was how intelligent he was about how Ft Martin needed to be run
My sympathy goes out to his friends a family

Bud was my landlord for two years back in the early 2000s. He was one of the kindest businessmen men I have ever met. Knowing my then fiancé was working out of town during a snow storm, he showed up to make sure the heat was still working and shovel the walk to the car. He just wanted to ensure I was ok. While we were just tenants he sure made as feel more like friends.

I knew Challen Ice, Jr. as "Uncle Bud". He was not my uncle, but that of my longtime friend, Richard "Dick" Shuttlesworth. Dick and his dad Gene, retold countless stories of Bud in his energetic youth, his military service, and his long leadership at the power plant. Bud loved to share nature, taking friends and family hunting, fishing or out for a hike. And any who played golf with Bud were amazed by his great "natural" talent. I was welcomed by Bud and his beloved wife Doris when I came to WVU in 1963, and have felt uplifted by their example of kindness, faith, and efforts to leave this world better than they found it. Now, as Bud has joined Doris in graduating from this life, I thank him and his family for touching my life. To Larry, Bob, and Jim, their wives, and extended family, I offer my condolences and my appreciation for knowing your patriarch. Sincerely, Layton Whitman II
