Thomas "Jamie" Casteel, 52, passed away in Mobile, Alabama on Friday, April 10, 2020, after a seventeen-year illness, resulting from an accident. He is survived by his mother, Carolyn (Ponceroff) Casteel, his children Thomas James Casteel of Mobile, AL, Mary Kathryn Casteel of Homewood, AL, and their mother Kathryn Casteel of Daphne, AL. He is also survived by his father, Thomas R. Casteel of Morgantown, WV. Other survivors include his Aunt and Uncle Jacqueline (Ponceroff) and John Findlay of Williamsburg, VA, cousins Cathy (Alain) Ring of Roanoke, VA, Greg (Maria) Findlay of Lanexa, VA, Lisa (Vint) Myers of Richmond, VA, Thomas (Michelle) Findlay of Hampton, VA, Michael (Jennifer) Findlay of Yorktown, VA, and Jeremy (Susan) Findlay of Williamsburg. Close second cousins Rebecca (Hal) Meacham of The Villages, FL and Primo C. Zini of Moundsville, WV survive him as well.
He is preceded in death by his beloved maternal grandparents Charles and Violet (Zini) Ponceroff, his great grandmother Katherine (Trucano) Katsalis, and his paternal grandparents Forrest and Geraldine (Bucklew) Casteel all of Morgantown.
Jamie graduated from St. Francis High School in Morgantown and attended West Virginia University and the University of South Alabama. At the time of his accident, he was employed as the manager of the Mobile branch of Aluminum Services, Inc., and he was the former owner of Southern Screen and Patio Construction in Mobile. He adored his children, was an especially loving father, and was devoted to family and friends. Jamie was blessed with a gregarious nature and sense of humor. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed other outdoor activities. He had a fondness for animals and had a generous spirit. Jamie will be forever loved, missed and admired for his strength of suffering.
The family is especially thankful for his long-term physicians, Drs. Marc Gottlieb and Christopher Gamard as well as his physical therapist and home caretakers, all of whom attended him with compassion and affection. Many friends and neighbors offered him support and kindness.
A requiem Mass to be announced at a later date will be held at St. Dominic's Church in Mobile, AL. Private graveside service will take place at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Morgantown, WV, where he will be buried next to his grandparents. Msgr. Anthony Cincinnati of St. Francis de Sales Church will officiate.
Hastings Funeral Home is handling the arrangements in Morgantown and Radney Funeral Home in Mobile. In lieu of flowers, donations and/or prayers may be made to any foundation for the disabled or to a children's charity or animal shelter.
