Franklin "Frank" Gerardo Schiebel, MD, of Morgantown,WV, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on August 2, 2020, at the age of 78. He was the proud son and one of 11 children of Gerardo and Emilia (Sevilla) Schiebel. He was born in Managua, Nicaragua on December 10, 1941. His family traveled back to Germany after his birth, where he spent 11 years before returning to Nicaragua. He graduated from medical school in 1967 from the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara, Mexico. He completed one year of general surgery residency in Barberton Citizens Hospital in Barberton, Ohio. Frank then completed a Neurosurgery residency at West Virginia University from 1975 -1979 and a Critical Care Fellowship from 1979 -80. Following his training, he began his career at WVU Hospital in the intensive care unit and retired from there as the Medical Director of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit in 2007. During his 20 years as Medical Director, he taught many health care professionals the art of Critical Care Medicine. He was the proud recipient of many teaching awards throughout his career and was honored in 2002 with the Gift of Life Humanitarian Award for his efforts promoting and helping families through organ donation. He was proudly recognized as a Professor Emeritus with the West Virginia University Department of Surgery. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 49 years, Yadira (Medal) Schiebel; children: Frank Schiebel and wife, Heidi of Morgantown,WV; Guisela Barrett and husband Charlie, of Wheatley Heights, NY; Al Schiebel and wife, Karrie of Hickory, NC and Ricardo Schiebel of Morgantown, WV. Frank was known for his great sense of humor, generosity, and his compassionate heart. No one appreciated these things more than his grandchildren. They were all one of the many loves of his life. If you were fortunate enough to know Frank, you undoubtedly heard him talk about them all. He will be remembered and greatly missed by Simon and Silas Schiebel; Elias, Gabriela and Leyla Barrett, and Jordan, Madison, and Allie Schiebel. Frank was a member of Chestnut Ridge Church, where he will be lovingly remembered. Now we celebrate his reunion with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Chestnut Ridge Church, 2223 Cheat Road, Morgantown, WV 26508. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
