Family of Karen: Karen was one of the nicest individuals anyone would ever want to know. I worked with her many years ago in the Dean's Office in the School of Medicine at WVU. Always helpful, upbeat, kind, etc. and at the same time did superb work in her position. I had lived away for a number of years, moved back to Morgantown, lost my husband, and did not know Karen became so ill. I can only give high praise as a person who loved so much her husband, two boys, family. So sorry she has left us. However her battle is now over and she has a place in Heaven. Hoping her cherished memories will help Bill and her family to ease their intense grief and heal one day! Again, my sincerest sympathy!!

Karen, (Rusty), was truly the "glue" in so many volunteer positions in the community, and at work in the Health Sciences Center (HSC) Business Office. I am so glad I had the opportunity to be blessed by her presence & musical talent at the Brookhaven United Methodist Church while I was still in high school, college, and later working with her at the HSC for close to 20 years. She opened her home for many of us young adults to practice, and form a singing group call the Brookhaven "Singing Messengers", and later the "Good News Singers". All this was done while raising her own family! Such a giving, talented, person whose roll in our lives will never be forgotten. She is in a better place now with no pain. Brookhaven has a huge loss, but heaven gained an even finer Christian that touched the lives of so many that knew her. My prayers go out to Bill, her sons & family, and grandchildren during this loss. Love, Barry Smith

I've lost a dear friend. The second person I met at Brookhaven UMC. We taught adult Bible school together for many years. She supported me no matter what position I held in the church. Her faith bolstered my own sometimes faltering faith. Her piano/organ playing brought the sound of God's joy into our church. I once told one of our former Pastors the we could survive as a church without the pastor but couldn't survive without Rusty. May you rest in God's arms my friend. The music in Heaven has gotten a little sweeter. Bill L.
