Obituary of James Lee Himes

James Lee Himes, 72, of Michigan City, IN, passed away Saturday, July 31, 2021 at Franciscan St. Anthony Hospital in Michigan City, IN. He was born June 3, 1949 in Clarksburg, a son of the late Austin Brown Himes, Jr., and the late Wilma Lea (Pierce) Himes. Jim graduated from Morgantown High School in 1967. He retired after 39 years at Midwest Steel. Jim was an Eagle Scout with Troop 50 at Spruce Street United Methodist Church and belonged to the Order of the Arrow. In his free time, he was an avid fisherman. He is survived by his lifelong partner, Sandy Meyer of Michigan City, IN; twin sister, Shelia Harris and her husband Larry of Morgantown; brother, Donald Himes and his wife Julie of Morgantown; nephews and niece, Shawn Harris, Jeff Himes and his spouse Erica, and Melissa Himes and her spouse Randi Smith; great nephew and great niece, Brayden Harris and Evie Mae Himes. He is also survived by his grandson and best friend, Robb Rice and his wife Carissa and their children, Noah and Sophia; special family, Gene and Penny DeMien; along with several cousins and his furry friend, Madden. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 122 S. High Street, Morgantown, WV 26505. Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown, on Friday, August 6th from 3-7 PM and again on Saturday, August 7th from 9 AM until the time of the funeral service at 10 AM with Pastor Daniel Strosnider officiating.
