Mun is one of the people that changed the course of my career and I will always be thankful to him for his guidance, wisdom, time, kindness, patience and judicious lack of patience. Mun knew how to help people. He knew when to talk to people. He knew how to talk to people. He knew how to pick his spots. He had good timing. He had an above-average sense of humor. If he was your friend, you were honored to be his friend. When you spent time with him you knew that you received the gift of his time.
Mun, I'm already missing you and this is just practice for all the time I'm going to miss you in the future.

So sorry to learn of Mun's passing. I knew Mun through Trout Unlimited, where he arranged food for the banquet and I was the auctioneer. He made sure we had stuffed cabbage each year, and donated beautiful wood fishing nets, which I sold. Always a smile on his face and a gentle manner that the world needs more of. My condolences to the family,
Larry Harris

Mun was my supervisor when I first came to the Carruth Center in 2000. He was a wonderful supervisor and also became a good friend. I explored Clinical Hypnosis under his and Penny's friendly guidance, and benefitted so much from their shared experience. After I moved away from Morgantown in 2013, I kept in touch with Mun at intervals, and always enjoyed our phone conversations. I last got to see Mun and Penny, and Cathy and Michael Yura in the fall of 2018, on a brief visit to Morgantown. WVU was a great place to work, and Mun was a big part of making it wonderful. Thank you and God bless you, Mun!

It was my great pleasure and privilege to be a friend and WVU Carruth Center colleague of Mun for decades. He was a caring, giving person and consummate professional. I will miss his sense of humor, advice, and happy Hawaiian shirts.
I hope that Penny and their family are doing was well as can be expected during a sad time. ~ Ed Etzel

I remember Penny and Mun from my four years on Morgantown City Council (2017-2021) where you both sat through our endless meetings. Penny usually had incisive questions, which we couldn't always answer, and Mun sat patiently with her. May his memory be a blessing to his friends and family.

It was such a blessing to have known and worked with Mun throughout my career. He was a friend, colleague and mentor. I worked with Mun throughout my 40 years at the Carruth Center and he was a humble, kind, patient psychologist with his clients and colleagues. There are so many memories of Mun: his bold Halloween costumes; played Santa for staff; walked in high heels for the Rape and Domestic Information Center; his knowledge of hypnosis; (yet his best characteristic was ability to make work fun). He was a professional who was both assertive and compassionate and could help individuals in their most difficult times. He helped hundreds (maybe thousands) of individuals overcome obstacles.
Mun's love for his wife, Penny, his daughters, granddaughters and grandsons was understood by all who knew him. He was a role model for his colleagues, friends, supervisees and clients.
Mun is now in God's hands having lived a life that gloried God!

I met Mun through his wife Penny who played steel pan with me. My impression of him was that he had an easy going vibe and was so very friendly. After reading his impressive and extensive obituary, I only wish I had known him a little longer so that we could chat about his many interests. My condolences to Penny and the family.

Marion “Mun” Kostka served for many years as the Vice President of the Rape and Domestic Violence Information Center (RDVIC): our local shelter. He was a tireless advocate for the autonomy of all individuals and for respect among people, inside and outside the family. His knowledge of psychology, his adept practice of his calling, and his skill in lifting up others will be sorely missed. Thank you Mun!
