I am an investigator with Aramco Services Company in Houston, TX. I too am a retired Special Agent with the FBI.
I exclusively used Mike to conduct West Virginia investigations not only for his investigative skills, but I genuinely looked forward to talking to Mike. We talked about his shotgun purchases in South Texas and an assortment of things; none related to work!
Even though he was miles away, I also considered him a friend. I will miss Mike.

Debbie and I are saddened to hear of Mike's passing.
We got to know Sally and Mike when we sponsored Justin during his time at the Naval Academy, providing a home away from home for him. We have fond memories of many times together with Sally and Mike at our home and elsewhere, enjoying food, drink, and each others' company. As those who know Mike can attest, he was personable, conversational, and a delight to be with.
Sally, Justin, and Megan: Our thoughts and prayers are with you in this difficult time. We look forward with you to being reunited with the ones we love when Lord Jesus our King makes all things new and brings us to live with him in the mansion he has reserved for us.
With love,
Debbie and Steve Petri, Annapolis, Maryland

Mike, generous and benevolent, was helping me with a screenplay that I’m writing about my dad’s F.B.I. career. He drove five hours round trip in order to meet me over dinner in Charleston when I was on my return trip from Fairmount, Indiana. We talked non-stop for at least an hour-and-a-half. It was a really good time, and a treat for me. I’ll never forget it. Mike closed by offering to do whatever he could to help me. In keeping with that, he later traveled to Fairmount on my behalf at his own expense to interview a witness in a fifty-year-old bank robbery case with whom I was unable to meet when I was there myself a few weeks earlier—a major contribution to my effort, and all for free. For that and his other contributions, I plan to credit Mike as Associate Producer of the film. I only knew Mike for about a year and a half, but I could tell that he was a man of humility, integrity, and solid character who was freely and generously benevolent. I am thankful that our lives crossed, and I am better-off because of it.
Godspeed, Sir.

The Kirkpatrick family shared many holidays with the Eby household in West Virginia. Christmas, Thanksgiving, Memorial Day was filled with food, drinks and games. One Christmas Mike and Justin hands down beat us all at Trivia. Mike and Sally were supportive during difficult times even traveling to California to celebrate milestone birthdays in our family. Mike thoroughly enjoyed jumping in the pool playing “deck ball”, the old guys versus the young guys.
My condolences to Sally and family for their great loss.

Mike was a great leader, a true gentleman, and I am glad to say friend. Whenever I had overseas visitors- be as a legal or later as a consultant - he would also ensure that they got a good briefing and welcome at CJIS in WV. Glad to have worked with him on a few projects since then. May he rest in Peace.

We remember fondly our first meeting with Mike in Kansas City as he made a lasting impression on us. His wit, friendly character, insightful perspectives on politics and worldly matters were cherished by us both. We admired the steadfast love and devotion he held for Sally and his family. His departure leaves an irreplaceable void; his vibrancy, wisdom, humor and unique take on things will be immensely missed. May we always honor his memory in deepest admiration.

Mike was always a well behaved young man during the many times we enjoyed family gatherings. He was usually, however, happy to join in the turmoil and cacophony caused by my siblings and myself--his cousins, albeit a bit more quietly. Perhaps we were an impetus to his future of bringing law and order to a chaotic world through his FBI work. Rest in peace, Mike. We love you.

I met Mike after our respective retirements from the FBI. We worked together in West Virginia to advance the study and implementation of biometric tools for the betterment of law enforcement and other aspects of human recognition. Mike was always "the man" who could point to those with the knowledge and skills to advance those concepts. There was literally nobody in northern West Virginia who was capable of leveraging biometrics in law enforcement that Mike didn't know. More importantly, he was a man of character...just a great guy.

My acquaintance with Mike developed through Rotary. His servant heart, energy, and enthusiasm were evident from our first meeting. Having Mike on our district Rotary team was a true blessing. He will be sorely missed, but he'll also live on in the memories of all those he touched as a Rotarian.
Rest in peace my friend. We will carry on your work in supporting our communities and those less fortunate than ourselves.

When I joined Cheat Lake Rotary Club just 1-1/2 years ago, Mike was one of the first, most welcoming and friendly members that I met. His smile and easy-going nature made him a pleasure to sit near and work with at the two Cheat Lake Poker Runs last year. I am terribly sorry that he is gone and shall miss his kindness.
