La Rue Shannon Wilson, 90, of Morgantown, passed away Saturday, February 11, 2012, at Monongalia General Hospital.La Rue Shannon was born in Johnstown, PA on July 21, 1921, the daughter of the late Arthur Ellis Shannon, Jr. and Naomi (Whitton) Shannon.La Rue was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church.She graduated from Morgantown High School, and received her B S H E in 1943 and her M S H E (Child Development in 1962 from West Virginia University. La Rue was a former Director of YWCA at WVU a former Administrative Assistant to the Director of Maternal and Child Health and the WV State Department of Health. She worked in Morgantown under Dr. I. A. Wiles in coordination with departments of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Pediatrics at the University Hospital She had also worked for eight years from 1967-1975 on the Maternal and Infant Care Project. La Rue worked as a realtor for Pat Stewart from 1987 to 2001. She was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority at WVU and their alumnae association, received the Cable Award from National for service to the local group and was a member of the Ingleside Book Club. She is survived by her son, Douglas J. Coombs of Severville, Tennessee daughter, Kathryn âKyttâ Coombs Howard, of Hollywood, FL, grandson Maxwell Howard of Milton, FL daughter-in-law Gilda R. Coombs, grandson James S. Coombs II of Fairmont nieces, Amy Cox Van Den Berghe, husband Reed and 3 children and 1 grandson of Ronceverte, WV Amanda Cox and 2 sons of Charleston, WV Ann Cox Boyce and husband Chris of San Diego, CA and nephew, Matthew Cox of Ronceverte, WV.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by son, James S. Coombs sister, Marilynn S. Cox brother-in-law, Stanley R. Cox, Jr. niece, Margaret S. Cox and nephew, Stanley R. Cox III.Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, Morgantown, Thursday, February 16 from noon to 2p.m. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00p.m with Rev. Steven E. Lightner officiating. Private inurnment will be held at East Oak Grove.Memorial donations may be made to Morgantown Hospice, P.O.
