Gordon John Peplin, 88, of Morgantown, (Cheat Lake) and of Luiquillo, Puerto Rico, died Tuesday, January 31, 2012. He was born in Duluth, Minnesota, on April 27, 1923 son of the late John and Stella Parchem Peplin. He is survived by his wife Bernice âBunnyâ Peplin of 62 years three sons, John (Peggy) Peplin of Marietta, OH, Scott (Donna) Peplin of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Todd (Candy) Peplin of Redmond, OR two daughters, Pamela (Dave) Richardson of Stilwell, KS and Candace(Charles) Schwab of Marietta, OH as well as 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.He has one brother and sister-in-law living in Edina, Minnesota, Gerald and Gloria Peplin.He was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and a friend of the Good Counsel Friary along with being a member of the Cursillo movement as a Cursillista. He served as a Eucharist Minister and Lector at both St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and the Good Counsel Friary. He lived in Duluth, Minnesota, until graduating from University of Minnesota, where he received his degrees in accounting, marketing and labor management. He was a member of the Theta Chi fraternity and the âMâ club of Minnesota football. His post graduate work was done while in the Air Force at Colorado State and Texas A & M where he also participated in their football and baseball programs. During World War II he served with the Eighth Air Force and with the United States Strategic Tactical Air Force, USSTAF, in England, France and Germany from 1941 â" 1946 and is a member of the âLucky Bastardâs.â He is a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 548 and American Legion Post 174, a Commander Member of the Disabled American Vets, Navy League of Eastern Puerto Rico, Roosevelt Roads. The family lived in Minneapolis, Minnesota Milwaukee, Wisconsin Chicago, Illinois Stamford, Connecticut and in Pound Ridge, New York, before making their home at Cheat Lake in Morgantown, West Virginia, where he served as the President of the Lakeview Estates Townhomes Association. As an Eagle Scout with the Bronze, Silver and Gold Palms and member of the Order of the Arrow, he served as a Scoutmaster and as the Commissioner of the Boy Scouts of America and was a member in the direction of the movie âBoys of Americaâ under the directorship of Jessie L. Laskey, the director of the movie âSargent Yorkâ. He organized the Pop Warner Boyâs Football Program and coached in Little League baseball. He is listed in the book of âWhoâs Whoâ in Pound Ridge, New York for these accomplishments. He was in the textile industry with California and European mills in various executive positions for 55 years and in 1983, he was appointed and accepted by Tisca Tiara of Switzerland, to market the textiles of Switzerland, Austria, Italy, France and Germany in the United States. He kept his office in New York City for 40 years before retiring to his present home in Cheat Lake. During his past years he belonged to numerous organizations. A past member of the Pound Ridge Tennis Club Lakeview Golf and Country Club âMâ Club University of Minnesota, âAggiesâ of Texas A & M Maroon & Gold âD Clubâ Morgantown Christian Menâs Group Full Gospel Christian Menâs Association WVU Athletic Association, Board Member of Washington Irving Boy Scout Council of New York, in which he received the most dedicated Scout Award and was also a member of the North Star Council and Voyageurs Council of Minnesota.A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, One Guthrie Lane, Morgantown on Monday, February 6, 2012 at 10:00 AM with Very Rev. Mark Ward, CP, VF as Celebrant. The family will be receiving friends at the church on Monday from 9 AM until the time of the Mass.Private inurnment will take place on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at West Virginia National Cemetery in Grafton, where Full Military Honors will be accorded.Hastings Funeral Home of Morgantown is in charge of the arrangements.Condolences inline: www.hastingsfuneralhome.com
