Obituary of Mirjana Golubovic

Mirjana Golubovic, 55, of Morgantown, passed away Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at Greenery Specialty Care of Canonsburg, PA. Mirjana was born in Titel, Yugoslavia on April 25, 1956, a daughter of Radmila Sakac Sovljanski who survives her in Novi Sad and the late Miroslav Sovljanski. Survivors include her husband, Leonardo Golubovic two daughters, Alexandra & Vida Golubovic both of Morgantown and one sister, Nada Vuckovic and her husband Dejan of Novi Sad. Mirjana spent her childhood and most of her young years in Novi Sad, Yugoslavia where she finished Jovan Jovanovic Zmaj high school and earned her undergraduate degree in mathematics. Mirjana earned a Ph.D. degree in the field of mathematics in 1987 from the University of Belgrade, Yugoslavia. Prior to an artistic career, Mirjana pursued a scholar career as a lecturer and researcher at the West Virginia University where her husband Leonardo works as a physics professor. Mirjana and Leonardo, both of Serbian origin, moved to the United States in 1987, and to Morgantown, WV, in 1992. Mirjana has exhibited her abstract paintings in a number of solo and group exhibitions in the United States. She has received notable awards such as Vincent Melzac Memorial Award for Best Non-representational Work in 2002, and the Merit Award at the 2005 West Virginia State Juried Art Exhibition in Charleston, WV. Some of Mirjanaâs paintings have entered public collections including the West Virginia Women Artists Permanent Collection located in the Erma Byrd Gallery of the University of Charleston. Mrs. Golubovicâs wishes of cremation are being honored by her family. A reception of family and friends will be held at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown on Monday, October 17th from 5:00 PM â" 6:30 PM. A celebration of her life will be held by her family in the funeral home beginning at 6:30 PM. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Serbia.
