Robert L. âBobâ Hartley, 91, of Morgantown, passed away Friday, May 20, 2011, at Monongalia General Hospital. Bob was born in Morgantown on July 19, 1919, the son of the late Charles H. Hartley and Ruth Miller Hartley. He graduated from the West Virginia University in 1943 with a degree in Agriculture. He retired in 1976 with over 25 years as owner and operator of Hartley Insurance and Realty representing Northwestern and Mass Mutual. Bob was one of the oldest living members of the Suncrest United Methodist Church - Drummond Chapel, was a member of 4-H, and sponsor of the Emma Virginia Cackley Hartley 4-H Scholarship Fund. He was a long time member of the Morgantown Kiwanis Club, a volunteer for the Mended Hearts, past president of the Mountain Heart Foundation, a founder and sponsor of Camp Mountain Heart held annually at Cedar Lake Conference Center in Riley, WV. He was listed in Morgantownâs 100 Influential Citizens and received the 2006 West Virginia Governorâs Service Award. He was a friend and helper to many, many people throughout his life. He is survived by his sons and spouses: Robert W. and Kathy Hartley of Newport, WA, Richard S. âDickâ and Martha Hartley of Cairo, WV and Charles L. â Chuck âand Joyce Hartley of Hurricane, WV grandchildren: Frank and Rachel Hartley Tolley, Bryan and Tina Hartley Olson, James and Jamie Hartley, Peter and Rebecca Hartley Meyer, David Hartley, Jared Hartley, and Tyler Hartley great-grandchildren: Tneal, Shelby and Walker Tolley, Gabriel Roscoe, Noah Slackman, Benjamin and Jacob Meyer, Parker Hartley, and Madison Hartley and great- great grandson Kaden Michael. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Emma Virginia Cackley Hartley brother, Charles H. Hartley, Jr. and sister, Marjorie Louise Hartley. Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, Morgantown on Monday, May 23, from 4-8 p.m. Visitation will continue at Suncrest United Methodist Church on Tuesday, May 24, from 9:30 to 10:30a.m. Funeral services will be held in the church on Tuesday, May 24, at 10:30a.m.with the Rev. Tim W. Halloran officiating. Burial will follow in Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Bobâs memory to the Mountain Heart Foundation, P.O. Box 4665, Star City, WV 26504 or to the Suncrest United Methodist Church, 479 Van Voorhis Road, Morgantown, WV 26505.
