I served Martha''s church, Spruce St UMC as director of music/organist for nine years. I learned right away if I needed to know anything about the choir''s history, past anthems sung, or important traditions, Martha had the details. If she didn''t remember something, she could look it up in the complete church bulletin files she had complied since the 1950''s! She had unparalleled commitment in serving her church but especially the choir. When we left Morgantown in 1981, Martha adopted our dog when we felt we couldn''t take her with us and they had many years together. We have so very much appreciated through all these years since, Martha''s sometimes lengthy letters keeping us in touch with the Spruce St church family. We will miss her and that special connection she gave us to that time in our lives.

To the family of Martha,Please accept my sympathy. Martha was a lovely woman that I have known since I was a young girl at Spruce St. Methodist Church. I grew up in the church and always knew Martha from the choir. We sang together for many years and I will miss her. Her service and dedication to her church was beyond compare. She is truly what we would call a loving Christian woman. May God help you through this time of sorrow and through his love know that the future will leave you with wonderful memories of the time you had with Martha. Cathie Buseman Bird

A little story about Martha.Martha was my next door neighbor for 18yrs. She was a talker. I can't tell you how many dinners were overcooked after an over-the-fence gab fest with her doing the gabbing and me doing the listening. Believe me, her stories were never dull and she was never boring. She lived a full, interesting life! Now, the place is too quiet. Thanks for all your stories Martha!
