Obituary of Irene Luci

Irene Luci, 88, of Winona Ave., Morgantown, passed away Monday afternoon, March 18, 2013 at Evergreen Assisted Living of Morgantown, WV.
Irene was born in Sabraton on May 1, 1924, a daughter of the late Stephen Barkaszi and the late Ida (Nagy) Barkaszi.
Survivors include her husband of more than 66 years, Sam Luci; a daughter, Mary Anne Morrone and her husband Sam of Lakeland, FL; a son, Greg Luci of Morgantown; and five grandchildren, Sammy Morrone of Greenville, TX, Matt Morrone of Greenville, NC, Kristyn Morrone of Lakeland, FL, Caitlyn Morrone of Lakeland, FL and Nicholas Luci of Morgantown.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Ida Marcus and Margaret Hriblan; and six brothers, Joe, Georre, Steve, Sigmond, Jim and Louie Barkaszi.
Irene was a well known artist in the area, having sold paintings at local art festivals for many years, and assisting in the paining of the mural at the Mountaineer Mall. She was also a long standing member of the Morgantown Art Association.
A devout Catholic, she was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Star City.
She enjoyed plant and flower gardening, baking and cooking. She was an avid WVU sports fan and assisted her husband Sam in doing the bookwork for their business, Sam's Auto Repair. Above all, she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved to spoil her grandchildren.
Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown on Thursday, March 21st from 2-8 PM, where a Scriptural Wake Service will be held at 7:45 PM Thursday evening to conclude visitation. On Friday, March 22nd, Mrs. Luci will be moved to St. Mary Catholic Church in Star City, where she will lay in repose from 10 AM until the celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM with Father John V. DiBacco as celebrant. Interment will follow in the East Oak Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mrs. Luci's name may be made to the Morgantown Art Association, 5000 Greenbag Rd., Mountaineer Mall, Morgantown, WV 26501.
