Ida Dolores Siddi Marino, 93, of Morgantown, passed away December 31, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-five years, Frank S. Marino, Jr. in 1998. Her brother Gino Siddi, parents Teresa and Severino Siddi, and sister, Gina Pinto also predeceased her. She is survived by three children, Frank S. Marino, III (wife Shelly), Maria Marino Potter and David J. Marino (wife Jacqueline); six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and a godchild, Mary Kay Pinto Thompson. She graduated from Gary High School in 1939. In the summer months during WWII, she was employed by Triumph Explosives in Elkton, MD, or spent volunteer hours as a USO Hostess at Camp Lee, Petersburg, VA. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 1942 and a Master of Arts Degree in Education in 1969 from West Virginia University. While at WVU and through attending George Washington University in Washington, DC, she completed another 45 hours of post-graduate work. Mrs. Marino retired in 1984 after 42 years of teaching. As a “Lady of the Golden Horseshoe”, she trained a number of winners of the Golden Horseshoe. At Suncrest Junior High, she helped to organize the school’s first student council. From 1969 until her retirement in 1984, she taught at Morgantown High School where she was also a student teacher supervisor for WVU. She served as a junior class sponsor and as the coordinator and counselor for Student European Travel Abroad, the summer enrichment program from 1975-1984 with Cultural Heritage Alliance, Foreign Study League and the American Institute of Foreign Study where she served as their District Administrator for Northern WV. Her professional affiliations included Kappa Delta Pi Honorary, Alpha Delta Kappa, Beta Iota Sorority, AAUW, MCTA, WVEA, NEA, MCARSE, WVRSE and the Emeritus Club WVU Class of 1942. She took an active part in her community. She was an early volunteer as a Pink Lady at WVU Hospital, member and a past President of Morgantown Women’s Club. She was elected to the Democratic Executive Committee and served for four years, was a member of the Board of Directors for Family Service, the Democratic Woman’s Club, volunteered at Criss Cross as an Italian Interpreter, the Woman’s Alliance and was a Den Mother for Cub Scouts. Her greatest joy came from her association and observation of the many achievements of her family and students. Visitation will be held at Hastings Funeral Home on Monday, January 5th from 6-8 PM. Additional visitation will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Star City on Tuesday, January 6th beginning at 10 AM, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions honoring Mrs. Marino’s memory may be made to St. Mary’s Trust Fund for the Poor, St. Ursula's Food Pantry & Outreach, or to St. Francis School Library.
