Chester “Chet” Dove Cook, 67, of Morgantown, passed away Friday, February 6, 2015, at Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was born in Logan, WV on December 10, 1947, the son of the late Chester Amos Cook and Martha Juanita (Dove) Cook. Chet attended WVU where he earned a BS in Journalism and a Masters in Communication Studies. He valued continuing education and was currently enrolled in classes in the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at WVU. He started his career with Employment at WVU in 1976 at the WVU Personal Rapid Transit System and later transferred to the WVU Office of Information Technology, from where he retired in 2013. While at OIT he received many awards from professional organizations to which he belonged. Chet enjoyed a 32-year career in the U.S. Military where he was active in the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Army National Guard, and the U.S. Air force. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, Kosovo Campaign, Desert Storm, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was honored with Twenty-nine separate commendations and awards for outstanding Leadership, general management, and deployed operations. Over his lifetime he enjoyed numerous hobbies and activities. Most recently he spent time with friends riding his motorcycle as much as possible. His motorcycles where his passion. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Susan Hess Cook; nephew: Dirk Cook (Christie) and their children, Chase Cook, Zachary Cook (Andrea), and Emily Stephens (Craig); nephew: William Scott Cook (Teri) and their children, Christopher Cook, and Corey Cook (Lauren); sister-in-laws: Ernestine Cook and Nancy Smalley (Les) and their daughter, Lesa Shriver (Brett) and their children, Victoria and Dominic Shriver. He is also survived by his loyal companion, Zoe. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, William Henry Cook and sister-in-law Phyllis Hamilton Cook. A Celebration of Life Service for family and friends will be held at the WVU Erickson Alumni Center, 1 Alumni Drive, Morgantown on Saturday, June 27th from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Chet will be inurned at Arlington National Cemetery.
