William Glenn Malcomson, 78, of Houston, TX passed away Sunday, February 19, 2017. William Glenn was born in Pittsburgh, PA on November 17, 1938, the son of the late Wilfred Glenn Malcomson and Virginia Ellen (Dickinson) Malcomson. A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Bill grew up in Morgantown, WV, graduated Morgantown High School Class of 1956 and attended West Virginia University. He began his career in the Department of State as a clerk-typist in the Processing Section of the Washington Passport Agency when passport books were printed on Addressograph machines. He then briefly worked in the Department of Operations Center decoding and transcribing incoming telegraphic messages from overseas posts. In 1962, Bill was drafted into the U.S. Army and spent 2 years at the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. Upon completion of his military service and another semester of college, Bill returned to the Department of State. His subsequent assignments included Chief of the Special Issuance Section, Chief of the Official Travel Section, Operations officer on the Field Coordination Staff, and Assistant Regional Director of the Washington Passport Agency and eventually Regional Director of Passport Office in Houston Texas, an office that provided consular assistance to a large regional area. He served in that position until his retirement in 1999. During his 40 years of service with the Department of State he receieved many superior honor awards citing his value to the Department of State and his outstanding leadership abilities and management and people skills. In Houston he was presented with a proclamation from the city of Houston Mayor honoring his distinguished service. He truly loved his work with Passport Services and his ability to create a positive attitude for employees and the public. At the time of his retirement, he received a gift that would be a furry companion for the next 16 years, his beloved Chihuahua, Sudi. Sudi's personality was so great that it took two newly- rescued Chihuahuas Izzy and Max to fill the gap. Bill is survived by his lifetime partner of 43 years, Joyce Gunn. Sister in law, Deloris (Trickett) Malcomson, niece Dianna (Malcomson) Rice, spouse Tom Rice and son Dylan. Niece Dr Ellen Denise Malcomson and fiancé Patten Kazor. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his older brother John Richard (Dick) Malcomson. Friends and family will be received Monday, February 27 at Hastings Funeral Home from 9am until the time of service at 11 with Rev. Kevin Cain officiating.
