Obituary of Charles Edward Jamison
Charles Edward (Chuck) Jamison, 75, unexpectedly passed in Morgantown on October 26, 2017.
Chuck was born on September 27, 1942 in Morgantown, son of J. Thearle and Theo Jamison. After graduating from Morgantown High School, he earned his BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from West Virginia University in 1965 followed by his Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh in 1967. Chuck was inducted into several college national honor societies. He was commissioned in the US Army and served from 1967 to 1969 as an ordnance officer at Fort Carson, Colorado.
In 1969 Chuck went to North Carolina and joined the company, Fiber Industries, which was at that time part of Hoechst Celanese. His duties included research and design work in fiber manufacturing, quality-control processes, and new equipment installation. As Group Leader of product support, he initiated plant start-ups and managed new business processes and product development. As Project Leader in the fibers core research finish department, which included environmental engineering, he assisted with the installation of finish hardware at sites in the US and Mexico. He obtained several patents for industrial processes while at Hoechst Celanese.
Chuck joined the WVU Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Advisory Committee in 1986, and recruited many WVU graduates for work at Hoechst Celanese. He also obtained corporate funds to support MAE activities, and led the Charlotte alumni recruiting network for attracting students to technical careers and possibly entering WVU.
Chuck was inducted in 1995 into the Academy of Distinguished Alumni of Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics at WVU. Always a humble person, Chuck mentioned in his remarks at his induction that "I'm still not sure why I'm here, but I'm very honored; maybe it's because of the love I hold for this University, this engineering college, its faculty and students, and the people of West Virginia." In his professional career, Chuck's support of WVU programs and students in many ways leaves little doubt that, in the words of the induction ceremony, "In recognition of his accomplishments in the field of mechanical engineering, and having served and brought honor and recognition to West Virginia University, Mr. Jamison is deserving of membership in the Academy of Distinguished Alumni of Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics."
After retiring from Hoechst Celanese, Chuck and his wife of 51 years, Nancy Blosser Jamison, returned home to their native Morgantown. Spending most of his career in the Charlotte, NC area, Chuck and Nancy enjoyed gardening, collecting and refinishing antiques, and the company over the years of their pet canine companions. He and Nancy attended Wesley Methodist Church in Morgantown. He also greatly loved watching WVU football.
Surviving is a sister, Michele Suzanne Blatchford, and husband Dennis of San Jose, Ca. and their children, niece Autumn Casadonte and husband Alex with daughter Ava, and nephew John Blatchford. Also surviving are nephews John Michael Jamison, II, Marc Randall Jamison, and niece Lynette McSpadden and husband Durrett.
