Obituary of Roy Harrison Bucklew
Roy Harrison Bucklew, Jr., 89, died suddenly on March 4, 2018, in Morgantown, WV.
Roy was born on October 31, 1928, in Terra Alta, West Virginia, a son of the late Roy and Laura Feathers Bucklew.
Roy served in the US Army in Korea and later graduated with a BS in Mechanical Engineering from West Virginia University. He started his career with Sandia Labs in Albuquerque, NM, and joined Westinghouse at the Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory in 1955. He later became the Manager of the Nuclear Refueling Group at the Plant Apparatus Division. He retired from Westinghouse in 1988.
Roy and Rena were also active parishioners at St. Mary Catholic Church. Roy’s passions included keeping statistics for his children’s and grandchildren’s sports activities. Most recently, he and Rena were known as the most zealous fans of WVU Women’s Basketball and Volleyball Teams.
He is survived by his wife Rena DiPetta Cyphert; children: Robert Bucklew (Lynda), Barbara Daigle, Steven Bucklew (Nancy), Patti Bucklew and David Bucklew (Danielle); and grandchildren: Tara (Dave), Jenna (Kyle), Shawna (James), Kristin (Tim), Bethany, Mary (Chris), Darren, Caitlin, Nathan (Jennifer) and Cami (Joe); and great-grandchildren: Chloe, Allison, Violet, Lucia, Stella.
In addition to his parents, Roy is preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Elizabeth Cyphert Bucklew, and a sister, Mildred Bucklew Cyphert.
Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown, on Friday, March 9th from 4-8 p.m. A Scriptural Wake Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home to conclude the evening visitation. Visitation will continue on Saturday, March 10th at Hastings Funeral Home from 9-10 a.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 10th at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, 3334B University Avenue, Star City, at 10:30 a.m. with Father John V. DiBacco as Celebrant. Interment will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens.
