I am so sorry and saddened to hear of Joe's passing. I work at MIT and he was our Schindler supervisor for many years before his retirement. Not only was he the best Elevator supervisor we ever had but was one of the BEST guys I have ever met in my life. He would always come in with a smile and when he left I would have that same smile! He thoroughly enjoyed ribbing me about my beloved Red Sox and Patriots and I thoroughly enjoyed giving it back to him about his Steelers and mountaineers ! We all missed him when he left MIT and I only knew him for a short time so I can imagine how much his family will miss him.
God Bless and Rest In Piece Joe, you were a class act and a great friend.

Dear Dixie & Family: My deepest condolences on the passing of Joe. He was one of the great ones. I worked with Joe at Schindler for many, many years, where he was a leader, a friend, and a confidante. I often retell his stories (“I painted my elevator pits white!” and “I slept in the machine room until I heard the problem!”) and still find myself quoting him almost daily (“What would do you if you were 1000 miles from nowhere?”). Whenever there was a problem, Joe could fix it. He taught me so much not only about elevators, but about leadership, work ethic and values. I will always be grateful to him, and will forever miss his infectious laugh. Requiesce in pace, Joe. You will be so very missed.

I worked with Joe at Schindler elevator. Joe was one of the hardest working people I have ever met. He did the work of 2 men and always went above and beyond what was expected of him. I will always remember Joe as having the manners of a Southern Gentleman and how much it was evident that he loved his wife, Dixie.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the family during this difficult time.

Dear Joe's Family,
Joe introduced me to the world of elevators - he was one of the most genuine, hard-working, and straightforwardly kind people I have ever met. The love and effort he gave to his work and to MIT specifically inspired me and everyone around him. He left very big shoes to fill there and he will forever be missed.
Sincerely,
Alicia

Oh Dixie, Cheryl and I are so sad to hear of your loss. Joe was my all time favorite person to have worked with, "Mr. Reliable", No one ever stepped up like Joe; if we ever needed anything he was there night or day to help. Not once, not twice, not three time, but every time for nearly 50 years! Joe and I first met in a coal mine outside of Morgantown in 1981. We worked in the business and shared much together through Allentown, Baltimore and Boston,
He was truly one of a kind! They threw away the key! No one, bar none, compares!
I am happy he is at rest in Morgantown with you and his family as he would have wanted it. You and the family were all so dear to him.
Much Love to you and your family,
Gregg & Cheryl

Dixie and Family: words cannot express the sorrow I feel for you. I considered Joe one of my dearest friends.....who else could I find still working at midnight and then again at 5 AM to talk 'Elevators!' He was a one-of-a kind man. Honorable, Family Man, diligent, devoted - and a true, true friend. He will be so missed. I send my deepest condolences to you.

How I remember Joe for the many times he and I worked together. From the very first, I was amazed and impressed by Joe's work ethic, his sincere and true character, and his dedication to his wife, Dixie, and his family and friends. Whenever we/I had a problem with an elevator as well as the technicians in the field, we knew to call Joe because he could fix it. Without fail, if he didn't know about something, he stayed with it until the problem was solved and the customer was happy. I never met anyone in my decades with the company who was as knowledgeable as Joe with the possible exception of our national troubleshooters. On a personal note, I'll always remember Joe as friendly and a friend. Although he worked in a number of operations in my area, we approached each other as men and co-workers. To this day, whenever I hear his name, I think of a gracious man who stood above many, many others, always willing to go the extra hundred miles, and pay a personal price for others. His reliance on popcorn and bags of candy that littered his vehicle were the stay of many a lunch for us as we made our way into the hills of West Virginia to the coal mines. His dedication turned around severe labor problems in two important operations because he was one of the guys who could be counted on. I often wished that I had his quiet toughness, yet overall acceptance of the people he led. May you rest in peace, Joe. God has a great man in his employ now.

Dear Gaspar Family,
So sorry to hear of Joe's passing. I got to know Joe through his time at Schindler. I ran our Baltimore office in the mid 2000's and knew of Joe's time in Baltimore and his positive impact and reputation there with the field technicians. Later I crossed paths with Joe in Boston during work in that area. Joe was a consummate professional who put everyone before himself and had the best work ethic of anyone I came across. Above all, Joe was a great guy! I know I speak for everyone in Schindler, we are better off as a company because of his efforts and time spent with us. My thoughts and prayers are with your family in this difficult time.
