Obituary of Kenneth Zachary Weiss
Kenneth Z. Weiss, 73, died peacefully on June 12, 2019, in the home his grandfather built, with his family around him, from complications of renal failure.
He was born in Morgantown, the son of the late Zelda Stein Weiss and Howard R. Weiss. He was a graduate of Morgantown High School and the University of Miami at Coral Gables, where he was a member of Zeta Beta Tau fraternity.
After retiring from over 40 years as a merchant, he very much enjoyed working at Youth Crisis Center in Jacksonville, FL as development director.
He was a member of South Jacksonville Rotary Club, where he served as president and assistant district governor. He also was a member of Cheat Lake Rotary Club. He was a Paul Harris fellow.
He served as president of Congregation Ahaveth Chesed in Jacksonville, FL and was a member of Tree of Life Congregation in Morgantown.
Ken was president of the board of the Metropolitan Theatre and was a board member of Monongalia County Health Department. In Jacksonville, he served as YMCA youth basketball and youth soccer coach.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Saralouise; his daughter Whitney R. Weiss and spouse Sara Taylor of Paris, France; his cousins and Whitney's godparents Berna Spector Feuerstein and husband Michael Feuerstein of New York; niece Erin Yakim of Fayetteville, WV; aunt Shirley Stein Spector of Miami Beach; and cousin Tom Bloom of Morgantown.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 23, at 2:30 pm at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, Morgantown with a reception to celebrate his life to follow.
